:) I just showed my wife the photos of him building the sides in the kitchen and asked if I could do the same... I can't post what she said.. But in short it was firm NO.

maybe she will change her mind :worship:

She didn't mind at all ... only because I promised (and did) to wipe down, sweep and mop everything :?

Todays update.

I've been on my own most of the day with a little help from the missus.

I've panelled the inside, there's a mm or two gap on either side, but I'm sure I'll have that sorted in no time :)

Been working on the hatch also, the framework is all there, just to skin it and that'll be that, or not.

Outer skin is in place but only temporarily, it was getting late but I wanted to see what it looked like, also to see if it fit, also :) to see if it will bend to shape overnight.

OK, today has been a bit slow but still, there has been progress.

Got the insulation cut and glued, I cut lines down the back of the insulation with a circular saw about 1/2 way through, then glued the insulation in place.

Roof in now on, that was a sod of a job, but we got there in the end, definately a two man job that is. It's Glued and stapled in place, I'll leave it overnight and then get on with the Hatch and maybe the door too.

One more day, then I'm back at work and no doubt progress will slow down.

Just to let you know, I'm still working on it, I've painted the outside and the inside, can't afford the aluminium atm, but I've got the door on (temp).

I'm still looking for a window and a cheap alternative to a hurrucane hinge.

I only have the 1 photo.

Have you tried Aalco for aluminium sheet..an 8x4 ....0.8mm sheet is around £20

My first three builds I used caravan window hinge for the hatch...Its a cheep alternative. It did tend to flood if the hatch was open and the rain ran down the hatch. I got over this with a piece of pond liner under the lower part of the hinge, that went over the hinge and covered with a bit of trim.

Steadalls do a nice type of hurricane hinge for around £100 for a 5m length. You could always sell on the excess.

I'll get the aluminium from aalco but short on funds atm :) Steadalls is the only place I've found for hurricane hinge. Where would I get caravan window hinge at 4' length?

Thanks, Lee.

You could try a local caravan breakers....Most front windows are wider than 4ft so you should easily find something suitable.

I've spent a couple of hours on the Teardrop today.

I have done some temp wiring to get me spurred on a bit.

Here's a couple of pics.

The light is from DealExtreme (I saw a post on here for them)

I know, it's just a car battery but it's just for the light really.

This is the caravan so far, lot's still to do.

I think it looks really good! I really like the door. Where did it come from?

every thing looks great but I noticed the door opens to the back. Are you planning on installing fenders and if so will the door clear them? Patrick

Thanks :)

The door comes from eBay, I bought it locally for £5, removed the lower half, transfered the bottom piece of the lower half to the top half (because it had the seal), cut the sides down to size and fit ;)

Cheers :)

I see your point, I just noticed the same thing today. I don't think it will be a problem as the wheels need moving back and also I'm sure the fenders will clear the door (I've not got any yet but I'll make sure they do).

Plan B, is to change the hinges to the other side :)

Next thing is to look for some carpet, I've seen that another teardrop is being built in the UK has carpeted walls, I like the sound of that, I know it's not 'carpet' btw.

I've not sealed the underside yet ... maybe that should be on my list of things to do too :)

The problem I have with carpet, is that since I've dismantled a good number of older (70's era campers), the carpet gets really nasty smelling after a number of years.

It seems like a good idea at first, sound damping, covers a lot of mistakes, can be glued on, easy to install, but 20 years down the line, the smell get nauseating.
