Need an opinion. What looks better?

Postby len19070 » Mon Jul 25, 2011 2:32 pm

I mounted an AC in the Scotty the other day and am undecided as to how it looks.

What looks better?

Uncovered with the AC hanging out.

Or trying to hide it?

The AC operates properly and does not over heat either way.

Its got plenty of ventilation from above and below.

i think it looks cleaner hidden. and i think it would look very cool if you could hide it with something that would look era-appropriate like a radiator grill assembly or something to that effect.

i love your scotty, by the way.

Len,

Never did care for the look of a window shaker sticking out of a camper. Some type of cover is good, maybe not that one

Seems to me it would take less of a beating from rocks, dead skunks and other road debris if it were covered. Additionally, it looks more finished and less like an afterthought or a redneck kludge with the cover.

If you like redneck camping, make a hole in the side and pull the fridge in there, nailed with big, long nails. Otherwise, cover it, its nicer

RE: AC Mounting

Postby mezmo » Mon Jul 25, 2011 8:45 pm

Hi len19070/Len,

It looks unfinished not covered and not integrated into your great build
finish.

I'd also be concerned about air & water leaks when towing. I
don't have any direct experience with such an installation, but I suspect
the AC unit itself isn't waterproof [at speed] even if the installation
opening has been made so.

I'm sure you could do a cover that'd look like it was original to a Scotty.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

I agree, covered looks much better, but an era appropriate either obtained or fabricated would make it fit in nicely...

Would look a whole lot better with smaller text...

 Those are some BIG 'mater plants!
I'd cover it up as road spray could do a real number on the A/C Will
