Money doesn't talk .... it Screams !!! :o
Nigerian scammers are irritating. they always offer to pay with cashiers check and add 50 bucks to the asking price, well, no one legit ever offers more than the asking price at least not in my dealings..You can spot them right away, the emails are almost always in broken english..CL is free and you can put your add in more than one city if you want national exposure..Cash is king, and that is all I accept..fleabay is a joke. JMHO..

If you watch Ebay you can list items for free and get other discounts. I listed my Tear at the right time and only paid a little change for what I had listed. I had no bids until the last hour which I expected and then it sold for what I wanted - sight unseen but had lots of pictures of all the pros and cons (galley hatch had water damage and weighed a TON!).

Craigslist works for some people and that's great. Frankly, I hate it. I don't want to deal with scammers and CL is chop-a-block full of them but that goes for anything. Like Thomas said, you just have to blow them off.

If selling,: I always get a return phone number. I provide a general location to give the buyer an idea where located, ie. two blocks from ___ freeway, offramp _____. Only give the exact address on the day of the appointment to confirm that the buyer is still interested and coming to view the item.

Set a specific time of day so you are not waiting around to see if they show up or not. State that you will wait 30/60 minutes after the appointed meeting time. If they are running late, call you to let you know that they are in route. If no call is made before the meeting time, and the 30/60 minutes have expired, you have no obligation to waste the rest of the day waiting for a no show.

If the buyer is a no show, call them at your convenience to find out if they are still interested. I have had people just plain forget they made the appointment, and reschedule another for the actual purchase. Remember you ask for a return phone number BEFORE you make the appointment.

If buying: Try to go as soon as your or the seller's schedule will allow. If it is a hot item, and you are unable to meet, ask what is the earliest the seller will meet with you. If there are no pending appointments with the seller, and you can't conveniently get there before the weekend, ask for the first right of refusal. In other words... have the seller call you to let you know someone else wants to come before you do. Get your butt in gear and go see the item NOW!

There are no guarantees.
