Military discount

Postby urban5 » Tue Jul 26, 2011 12:49 pm

I have been reading some older articles today, and noticed some people mentioning saving money.

As an FYI if you have a military i.d. then you get a 10% off at Lowes or HD on anything in the store. Just thought I would share as they do not advertise it. Pep Boys also offers the same.

The same holds true for Basspro and Cabella's. They will also give the same discount if you are involved in Scouting. Wish HD and Lowes would.

Lots of places here will but you have to ask, we don't have any nearby military installations. I'm guessing if you live closer to one they do more advertising to attract business.

Here's a list of stores that offer military discounts that are national chains.

Don't tell anyone but if you go to your post office and get a change of address packet there is a coupon for at least 10% off at Lowes. HD accepts this coupon cause it is thir competitor. Remember you did'nt hear it from me :shhh:

Hundreds of Deals and Discounts for Military

You may just want to print this out so you will have it with you ..

Stores with Military Discounts

There is no way we can ever properly thank members of the US Military for all that they have done. They are certainly not paid enough for their work and their great sacrifice. Iraq and Afghanistan have been particularly tough and stressful for members of the military, their families and loved ones.

We have found stores and services doing their part to make life easier by offering discounts to active, reserve, and retired members of the US Military and their immediate family members. Please help spread the word via Facebook, Twitter and Email to those you know in the military about this resource. If you have additional suggestions please comment below and they’ll be added on an ongoing basis. For veterans of Iraq or Afghanistan, please check out IAVA. Members there are offered vouchers to many retail stores, such as JC Penney.

Two important caveats. First, some stores offer discounts only at the owner’s discretion and other discounts vary by state. Second, many stores that give a military discount don’t advertise it. It is always worth asking a store whether they have one or not and to have your military ID on you.

My HD and Lowes give a discount to all vets, not just active military. I just flash my VA card and get 10%. I've gotten the discount just by wearing my "Vietnam Veteran" cap.

Our local Autozone gives the military discount (I work there part time as well). We also give discounts for police and fire department personnel - full time or volunteer. If your a member of your local volunteer fire department, it doesn't hurt to ask. Could save you some $$.

I would suggest shopping where you are appreciated. :applause:
