trailer frame in western canada

Any one know where to get a frame in Alberta or Eastern BC?
Or failing that, whats the import situation on the HF trailers into Canada?

Flatbed floorless trailers are nearly impossible to find here for some strange reason. You can get a frame welded at a welder's shop and get all the other parts (like wheels, axles springs, coupler, lights at a store like Princess Auto.

Importing a trailer is quite easy. I wrote a thread about my experience a few months ago.

thanks! I think I must have already read your post about importing. Id read the various government web sites and I wasnt sure if the $200 import fee really applied to a $300 trailer.

The few informal quotes Ive received are in the same kind of price range as a prebuilt trailer from Homedeopot similar.
Im on the look out for a used one, but if I cant find one soon, I think I may buy a welder. Its been quite a few years since I last did any welding though.

Eh Canada Paul , where abouts are you? I'm in Chilliwack only 20 mins from th border so shopping across the border is easy for me. any how Harbor Freight is just 45 minutes from here and the their trailers come unassembled in a box so I think its just considered parts (as that is all it is at that stage) duty on those would only be minimum. You may be able to have one shipped to a border town that has a "Ship happens" or "Package Express" and they only charge minimum as well maybe $10 or so.

Buying a welder is what I ended up doing with the intentions of selling afterwords but as it turns out I love the fact I can weld anything I want at any time as needed. So the Lincoln 180 stays. Welding your own trailer is not that hard when you have welder friends who will help for a cold beer

PS Try Princess Auto, if not for trailer for te axles and springs or torsion axles, lights, there's one in Lethbridge

Im in Calgary, but am also in Cranbrook BC fairly often. Nearest Harbor Freight is in Spokane I think, about 8hour drive each way.
I like the idea of considering it parts to avoid the import fee. I can probably get it shipped to Montana, and have only 3 hour drive each way to pick it up. Ive had friends do that with other products.
Im already a frequent visitor and Princess Auto. May even stop on the way home tonight to check out the welders.

isn't there a princess auto in Cranbrook. or what I was thinking of doing is get a shop class to do it cause if you don't mind the wait they'll usually do it for free...... good little town I lived there as a child been thinking about possibly going back that way

i solved my problem by finding a used utility trailer on kajiji for about the same I could get a harbor freight one, without the import problems or driving.

Congrats on the find! Now the real fun can begin. I'm into mine now for about 550 hours including welding the frame. And probably another 100 hours of on-line research and Ebay shopping. This little trailer project is a lot bigger project then I first imagined. But I'm loving it and getting close to the end. Good luck with your build.

550 hours! I get about an hour a day after the kids are in bed, so I hope mine doesnt take that long.
