Looking for a cheap of free Harbor freight part

Postby urban5 » Tue Jul 26, 2011 11:59 am

So I am looking for someone close to me that has a very specific HF trailer part the NO ONE uses. Except for me that is. All of the folding 4x8 trailers come with two pieces of angle steel that little casters mount on. On one end of the steel there is a flat piece of steel welded to it.

Why this is in the General forum you may ask? Well because I am gonna tell you what I am going to do with them so you can decide if you really want to give them up.

The plan:
I already have 2 of these pieces as my trailer came with them. I plan on getting 2 more so I have a total of 4. I could always order them from Harbor freight, but that just seems silly if someone has them laying around collecting dust.

Using the two factory drilled holes (intended for the castors) I will mount these to the side walls of my trailer as high as they will go, using bolts through said holes into the trailer wall. They will be turned so that the flat steel that is welded on one end will be above the roof line a couple of inches. In the flat steel I plan on drilling two holes (if there is enough room, one if there is not). I then plan on bolting a 4' long piece of Uni-strut (found in your local box store in the electrical department) on the front two, and then another one on the back two, in such a way that they run from passenger side wall to driver side wall. This will be the base for my luggage rack/ canoe rack.

Not sure if this would work on a traditional styled teardrop, but since mine is a non traditional squared, it will work great. Just thought I would share the idea to get some peeps thinking about odd uses for HF parts. (oh and see if anyone has any extras)

I didn't buy the folding trailer, or I would definitely help you out! For that reason, I also am not sure what this piece looks like, but it sounds like you have a good idea!

Good luck! Looking forward to pictures!
