Deck Prism

I was wondering if anyone has ever used deck prisms in their trailer build

No reason you could not, BUT. They are intended for thick deck planks and if you want to sleep in or take a nap ya gotta throw something over them to block the light.
Other than wow factor, (not to be dismissed), or a theme, (nautical but nice), windows and or a translucent vent cover will achieve the same results. I used contemporary marine LED's in Compass Rose which work very well.

I had wanted to use a deck prism, but in the end, drilling another hole in the roof didn't make a whole lot of sense. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't push for it, since the Fantastic Fan / vent lets in a ton of light and acts as an awesome skylight at night. We can see the stars as we drift off. That said, deck prisms are beautiful, and if you do decide to go for it, please post some pics.

I also wanted a periscope. Kinda glad that didn't materialize, either.

The only deck prisms I've seen - in an old yacht - stuck a surprisingly long way down from the deck, presumably to throw light sideways in the cabin, and were really strong and heavy. So when, not if, you hit your head on them, it really hurt.

This is a cheap do-it-your-self prism light. I don't think they would work well in a trailer, but I think they are cool. If my landlord wouldn't make noises, I would consider something like this in my shop.

I'm currently in Seattle on my "maiden cruise". Today I saw a bright yellow SUV with a VHF/UHF antenna, a big phased array antenna strapped to the roof, AND a "periscope" made out of ABS pipe sticking up from the roof.

We suspect that the vehicle is actually a "yellow submarine".

Apparently you aren't the only one that wants a periscope in your vehicle.

Cheers,

Gus
