I hooked it up, placed the car license plate onto the hatch lid and drove to the Calif Highway Patrol Headquarters to see if I should expect a red light and siren while on the freeway. To my surprise, the CHP officer left his desk, came out to the parking lot with measuring tape in hand, and checked it out, and never asked about the galley or sleeping area. He agreed with me, (and the DMV regulation #24604 that I showed him) that since it extends less than 4 ft from the car tail lights to the rear of the TD, all that is required is the lighted car license plate, and that is all!
Great, no registration required, no perminent license plate, no tail, turn or brake lights, no 55 mph speed restriction, no need to carry an extra spare tire (or wear out trailer tires) and I can drive in any lane I choose. However, Mr CHP suggested that I carry a copy of the DMV regulation with me at all times, along with a tape measure, just in case some of his buddies light me up in the future. At last, score one for me! Now, to get those construction pics off of the camera and get 'em posted......soon, I promise.
