Around here, branches that fall from redwood trees are called widow makers...
A phrase coined by the early loggers around these parts.
When camping in the redwoods after a recent storm, I take a look at what's above me. If the wind kicks up to to where the trees are really dancing, I'll move to where there is no potential widow maker directly overhead. I don't give it a lot of thought during the Summer, but I sure do during the Winter and early Spring...
