where do we stay in williamsburg?

Postby stevem50 » Fri Jul 08, 2011 8:18 am

we are heading to williamsburg in august for a last minute trip to meet up with some family, and don't know where to stay.
anybody ever stayed at rainbow acres or williamsburg pottery campgrounds? doing a quick check online they are both inexpensive, have pools, and both gotten good and bad reviews. we want to steer clear of the amusement park places and just find someplace clean and quiet.

we stayed in a place in conneticut last year with out checking first, and i think we parked next to a house of ill repute...

any help would be welcome

So That was your TD I saw last year in Connecticut? that is not a house of Ill-repute it's a home for wayward street girls and I was only counseling them ;)

American heritage and KOA are near CW.

see what one person did:
: williamsburg VA campground
We are going to Williamsburg also this summer and from all recommendations we are going to go to American Heritage. There is a closer campground to Colonial Williamsburg but everyone warns about the trains that go by next to that campground - so we will try American Heritage first and while we are there check out others for future trips. We have been to Colonial Williamsburg many times (but not by RV) and there is large vehicle parking including RVs at the Colonial Williamsburg Visitors Center parking lot. Parking is free. There is no overnight parking permitted. Once at the visitors center you take the CW shuttle bus into the historic area - along with everyone else. The shuttle bus requires a Colonial Williamsburg Visitors Pass/Ticket which you purchase inside the Visitors Center. It is possible to also walk from the Visitors Center into the historic area. Allow several days for CW for your visit. And there are a lot of other things to see in the area as well.

When we go down we generally stay with friends - but that doesn't help you all. Can't really recommend a place - but I have heard some nice things about the sites mentioned above.

Good Luck and let us know how the trip goes.

from my Honeymoon I remember campgrounds near Jamestown, VA, near the river, that is only a short drive on the parkway that connects Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown and probably cheaper as Williamsburg is the big draw, the other two sites don't get half the tourists and may be cheaper for a short drive. (my honeymoon was 12 years ago so my memory may not be right anymore)
