Teardrop Trailer on TOP GEAR

Postby absolutsnwbrdr » Wed Aug 10, 2011 11:47 am

Just saw a preview for this weeks Top Gear (Sun Aug 14) on the History Channel. Season 2, Episode 4: Death Valley.

The guys compare 3 4x4's, and see which one is the best deal for $5000.

The preview shows them towing trailers into Death Valley, one of which is a teardrop. I'll try to find a video of the preview.

..oh, that's the American version. I was thinking you were talking about Clarkson, May and Hammond.

My bad. I guess I should have specified "crappy American TOP GEAR".

Not passing judgement. Just making clear which web site we need to ransack looking for information.

I watch that show, but it's like watching a train wreck. I absolutely hate all the hosts. It's not that everything is a staged stunt, but it's that (other than Tanner) they don't know anything about cars. If you're going to have a car show, at least have hosts that are enthusiasts. Have people who actually like cars, not guys doing it for a paycheck. Tanner just comes off like a cocky jerk. The description given to him on the interwebz is "D-bag", people just don't like him.

Adam Corolla was originally supposed to host it, but that got changed at the last minute. He went on to host his own show "The Car Show" which (although it has it's quirks) is a better show.

I'll watch that episode, most likely they'll fond some way to demolish the teardrop.

The American hosts just don't have the charisma that the Brits do. I've met Tanner a few times at rally races, and he's actually really down-to-earth. Rutledge seems to know what he's talking about, but I really have NO idea what Adam Ferrara's purpose on the show is (other than to bring down what little ratings they have).

I watch the show just because the rest of TV is full of reality shows.

saw the preview last night and its a pink teardrop being towed by a K5 blazer.

And I agree, the US version is not in the same league as the UK version.
Only good part about the US version is that they use cars we are familiar with. Not VW Lupos or other European cars.

The Brit Top Gear is great; it is inherently entertaining, even if you are not car crazy (like me). I've watched the Adam Corolla show a few times with my husband, and that show has the same vibe--entertaining and fun, although I wish that one guy (not Adam) would talk a bit less, so the other guys can talk more!
