Types of foam

The good news I was able to latch on to some 3" 4x8 sheets of styrofoam. The bad news is it is the white bead type, not the blue or pink. I am working up the nerve to start my pop up project and I was wondering if anybody has used this stuff. I am testing it with a a spot of TB, carpenters glue and latix paint left over from painting my girls room.

SP, We've built and flown (RC) many a successful foam wing out of the beaded board ... and you have the Thicker 3" which should be fine with a little wood bracing in stressed areas (as per usual) ... The T2 and similar glues will stick well to the beaded foam ... but Gorilla Glue would probably be best for joining panels ... You've probably seen all the tricks everybody uses to join it and add framing , etc. all very useful ...
It's like the old saying , if it doesn't look strong enough , use more foam ... make it thicker ... You'll appreciate the insulation factor too ...

Beaded foam might just be the Thrifty Alternative we've been seeking ... ???

can't wait to hear what you have to say about the white bead foam. good luck. i would think with it being 3" it should work well. but don't take my word for it, i haven't used it.

After two days of drying the test spots all look good. The elmers carpenters glue, the tight bond II and the interior latex all dryed with out breaking up beads in the panels.
I am thinking that I will make a frame for the panels out of 1/2 OSB ($3.00 a for a 4X8 sheet at the habitat for humanity restore) and then cover the whole thing with the vinal wall paper I got at the same place. I use the wall paper to cover the floor of my kids tree-house (glued down with latex house paint) and it held up all thru the winter. So far I am in for $140, including the trailer.

The bad news is that I probably won't be building a foamie. The good news is the reason i won't be building a foam is because I just picked up a 1973 Sprite Musketeer for $200 off of CL. The more bad news is that it is full, and I do mean full- like open the door and they fall out, of vintage beer cans. The more good news is that I can probably sell the cans to a collector or for scrap and pay for the trailer. Looking forward to the project. Now if I could just find another one for parts.......
