1 door or 2?

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Having two doors lets you have full ventilation with them open too. We also made ours as big as possible; easy in and out.

Cheers,

2 doors will also let you set up your camp to suit your needs better at times, depending on where the picnic table, fire ring etc...is set. I think I'd only do 1 on an original tear that is going to be a resto. 2 will also give you better resale value. Doug

Two doors

Postby Alfred » Sat Aug 13, 2011 12:41 pm

Hi All,

I built with two doors. More convenient to be able to get in/out from either side. I also think it is better to have two ways out if I ever need to get out in a hurry!

Two doors also makes it a lot easier to load and stow gear as you don't always have to crawl inside to move stuff around along the solid sided wall.

"I" had ta "rebuild" my Little Guy 4 wide. It came with 2 doors and I am VERY glad it did ! I'm a solo camper, but at times the bathroom, fire ring, building, tree, other camper(s),cliff, picnic table, wind, lawn sprinklers... are on the "other" side a the TD.

Plus.. if I wanna sneak outta camp without anybody knowin.. I jus use the "other" door.

There are more advantages to 2 doors than disadvantages.

In the early design/scrounge for parts days, I found a large RV window that a dealer pulled off a wrecked 5th wheel for $60. I was thinking of a single door and a 'glass wall'. Thinking about it in bed that night, I scrapped the notion of a single door.

Not only did we include two doors for all the reasons already given, we also made all the door frames and the edges of the door out of oak to make the door and frame strong for the stresses.involved in a moving vehicle. We felt the screws on the piano hinges really had something to hold on to.
Didn't mean to highjack the thread, just wanted my two cents included on the doors.
Now back to the discussion of two doors or one.

I camp alone and do not see the second door at this time needs. Construction and small cars 4 wide traction, so I'm sure I'm not in the forum norms.
