Made a TD for my first customer

Postby greekspeedoman » Sat Aug 13, 2011 10:16 pm

Someone Asked, we found the time. Looks like we may make one-off TDs for people from time to time. Pretty fun hobby. Nice to have an outlet for the habit!

Here's what it looks like:

Very well done Mark....it's nice when you have the abilities to do something like that and others see the value in it enough to ask you to build them one. Speaks volumes on your abilities/ quality. Doug

I do have interior photos. Just haven't sorted them yet. A friend and I built it in 28 days (9 hours each). We had a pretty tight battle plan from the start (that helped a lot).

Danny - The skin is a thin gage stainless steel (ended up weighing only about 35 lbs heavier than aluminum).

 Stainless..WOW. That explains the shine.. that skin will last a long time. Did you put it right over the spars or, did you use plywood first?

Looks real nice! What gauge SS did you use? What method did you use trim the sheets to size? SS is a lot harder than AL, but the results seem worth it. :applause:

One more question...what kind of hinges are those on the door? Can't tell from the pic, do you have a close up of them?

We used a 24 ga stainless steel. We trimmed it with shears, a nibbler, and a milling bit on a low speed router.

The hinges are called an over-the-seal hinge. Google them and you'll find all kinds.

Mark, I saw the trailer on your web site. Very impressive! I am anxiously awaiting your interior shots!

Oh, I have tried to "Like" your videos several times, but to no avail. It it broken on your page, or is it some combination of gremlins on my side? I don't recall having this issue anywhere else.
God Bless
