Attachable side tent

Postby Pottercounty » Mon Aug 15, 2011 5:14 pm

Have anyone of you out there had experience with the Sportz 83000 Suv tent and attaching it to your teardrop? We have studied the design of this particular tent and we think it would work either as is or with some simple modificatons. I thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone else has used this Model of tent...Or,...other than the pop up canopy, is there anyone who can tell me about what you use?

I appreciate your input, Thank you all...

Tim:

I can't find one of the Sportz tents with the number of 83000, but I used one of the "van" Sportz tents for over 8 years. It fit a mini-van, an SUV and a pick-up truck. No experience using it with a TD.

It attaches to the rear of a vehicle with a nylon "boot" that is elasticized around the edges. It also has straps that can be attached to the roof rack and to the wheel wells of the vehicle. And, the nylon "boot" is removable from the tent, which leaves a window with a screen.

Here's a couple of pictures of it attached to my Canyon pickup:

Just my thought on using this with a TD is that you would have to figure out how to attach the elasticized edge to the side of the TD. (Maybe remove the elastic???) Also, the tent does angle inward towards the top, so you'd need to made allowances since the TD side is normally straight up (I hope you understand this :? ).

I hope this helps.

I took my gally out and use the rear hatch for getting in and out but the tent could be used on the side also.Image

Neat, Big Dan!!! I was just thinking of the side door--taking it off of the galley door didn't occur to me :DOH2:

I have lots of gear and an old dog that does not like getting in the side door. With the back open like this it makes it real easy to load and unload Image

We used one on our side door. It worked well.
The kids slept in the tent and the wife and I slept in the teardrop.
The side door remained open at night.
I no longer own that teardrop or the tent but it did serve our needs well at the time.

We picked up one of the SUV tents from Costco a couple years back. Added grommets to the straps and use giant suction cups to attach to the tear. Will fit on either side. Snugs up pretty well, tho we have to gather a bit of the "sleeve" with clothes pins. We use it when our boys are traveling with us and leave the side door open; tuck the unzipped part of the sleeve under the mattress. Guess I don't have a good pic of how it attaches...we're headed to Joshuafest over Labor Day, I'll have to remedy that!
