And that fiber-glassed & cardboard TD build is absolutely phenomenal
in my opinion. A true inspiration build.

All that Foamanistas/Foamlings need to do is follow his lead and method
and just substitute their desired thickness of foam and go to it. All that the
cardboard is doing is holding the fiberglass & epoxy skins in position.
Fiberglass & epoxy or canvas and TBII-III can do it over the foam just
as well.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

That build is what inspired me. I am in the middle (well, not exactly the middle) of my build. It is 1/2 pink foam (double layered for the roof) with a fiberglass skin. I purchased a used boat trailer for the foundation and now that it is repainted I am beginning on the floor. I hope to be fiberglassing the walls within a coupe of weeks. Foam and fiberglass just seemed to fit my limited skill set and design needs.

Eagle. I would not use foam with any covering any place they can get their beaks on it. Unless it is a test piece to see if it will work. Remember, they are there 24 hours a day and probably board out of their skulls so they have a lot of time to peck.

 i don't think they will be there 24 a day. this is only the house. they will be free roaming birds. we plan to only bring them in at night, because of the night critters. will they do a lot of pecking at night?
could always double up the inside of the walls.

well hubby had to put the duck house on hold. the van's brakes are shot and would not stop. so he is working on them today. i suppose he had to set his priorities.

i really can't stop looking at the pic. love those kinds of drawings. use of the lines. i remember back in school i had to do one with just dots. loved it, i did a shark image. wished i still had my sketch pad.
i did a billy jack in charcoal once also, really loved that one.

my son did something like this last year also, i just really love this kind of stuff.

thanks again, i really do love it!

Mike...I personally would create the foamie and then float a skin of aluminum on top somehow...same for the inside with the wood. It would be decorative, not structural. For the inside, the wood could be T&G so the smaller pieces could be brought inside after the fact. Thermal expansion/separation would not be an issue.

Eagle...You could take the empty cans from the 500 lbs of beer, cut the cans into aluminum scales (like a fish) and cover the outside? I would not want to rub up against it though.
It's not fun and games until someone loses an eye.
