Toilet ????

Postby kirkman » Sat Aug 20, 2011 2:38 pm

I have used a compost toilet for #2 with peat moss, saw dust, and kitty litter and it works GREAT...... My Question is for those of you that have used a compost toilet with kitty litter for #1. How well did it work?... I have 3 girls going camping with me and they don't like the public rest rooms. Should I buy a Thedford flush toilet also for just going #1 in or use my 5 gal. bucket toilet for both?
Thanks Jason!!

I got a folding potty with the plastic bags. I use kitty litter in it and it works great. Some of those bathrooms can be prity nasty. And walking acrost the campground just to have to wait for someone els to finnish is no fun. Mine is always open and it does'nt smell. Its the one tent I won't leave behind.

I often take my nephew camping with me and he doesn't like the vault toilets(outhouses) so I usually try and get as close as possible to the shower house as they usually have regular toilets. It's too bad you aren't closer to me as I have a chemical camp tiolet that I don't use and if someone was interested would just give it away.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

a big +1...we have an old potty chair...plastic bags and kitty litter is what we use...double bag and dispose in campground dumpster..........

What trailer are you considering putting a flush toilet in? Is it large enough to justify it?

I cheat and take the toilet seat covers with me for those public toilets and we have a coleman we keep for at night.

Big Dan.... That is what I do after a solid deposit.

StandUpGuy.... Not a full blown flush toilet. Just one of the portable ones that you can get a walmart. For my privy/shower tent.
I was not/am not sure the 5 gal. bucket with kitty liter could handle soaking up all the liquid that 3 girls can produce in a weekend. I know it works GREAT on solid wast. I have used it for a week strait for solid deposits...... I don't use it for going #1 when I am out buy my self. I did not want to try to empty a soaking wet kitty liter disaster at the end of the weekend. I can only imagine what a mess that could be.

CliffinGA... If I could only get them to do that!

I've used the portapotty and the bags. Definately prefer the bags.

I now use the portapotty to sit on, and the bags to catch.

At the recent Ross Hill get together, I thought about my g/f (first camping trip) and brought my rarely used (once) Pett portable toilet and set it up in my cabela shower tent..... she was forever grateful... next time I will bring some kitty litter to add to the plastic bags... And it did work very well for her...

I don't like the normal porapotis... low gag reflex..... :)
