An I thought I was a tight ass cutting down a 2 x 4 at work to make "L" shaped corner trim to apply to the bottom edge on the sides of the 4 x 7!

Now seriously , I am with ya Slow. I am drowning in cedit card debt and with the wife under employeed we are feeling the pinch just like you.

Now go get a dab of carb cleaner like SC said and do a better job.

P.S. what's a font in lantern parts? I know what it is in type styles

Slow - I've brought many a rusted , gummed up Lantern back to life - except when they have a huge hole in the fount - then they're too far gone to save. A little bit of solvent goes a long way - Also take some time to give the generator a good cleaning as well

Acetone M.E.K. turpentine or even good ol charcoal starter (naptha) any of that laying around the barn ?

Be careful of any rubber parts with the 1st 2 on the list but you can tone them down by blending them with the charcoal starter fluid.

this brass valve assemple is black and shiny with some good stuff on it looking like meltaded on plastic.

to the coleman gear heads any chance of a rubber gasket being inside a gas tank siphon tube that has the gas valve wheel on it?

slow.

Slow - there's is no rubber on the brass parts (older models) But what you are seeing is probably the graphite packing around the valve. Usually they are just fine - but don't take out the needle valve if you don't have to (that's the one attached to the fuel adjustment wheel!) usually I just spray some cleaner through the holes to make sure it is clear. You can usually tighten up the packing nut to take out any play in the valve. if you have cranked the nut all the way and the valve is still loose - then it time to repack the valve.
