Newest version of Climate Right (PetCool) Air Conditioner

An FYI and pics for those who are interested in the newest revision of this pricey but nice climate control system. There are some changes I have noted from previous models. There are intake vents on both sides, I only saw an intake on one side in pics of earlier models. The air inlet & outlet are on the opposite side of the unit from the digital controls and power cord, I believe they were on the same side before. The fan has six speeds rather than the former two. The condensate drain is located on the opposite side of the unit from the exhaust. According to the operation manual, if I am reading it correctly, there is now an auto mode, which switches between cool, fan, or heat, plus cool/fan/heat only modes. From the manual...

have it primed the unit will default to Automatic
mode with a set temperature of 75 degrees

In case you don't know yet, and before the xbox/expensive ac flames begin, I live in here, not just camp occasionally.

No worries from me...I've got a few "extras" too, and I just go camping/touring/relaxing now and then.

So tell us more (if you wish) about how/why you are full timing it, and how it is working out?

That looks nicer than the older model. That isn't as pricey as this unit

We had a very humid night at CAG and the amount of condensate both under the AC unit and dripping off of the hoses going up into the trailer were witness to sucess. I lose efficiency with the hoses and that helps the $50 5000 BTU unit perform with out short cycling. I have a grand total of about $200 wrapped up in a system that works really well and can have the guts replaced for $100.

So tell us more (if you wish) about how/why you are full timing it, and how it is working out?

I am not exactly sure where I am headed. I just really needed to clean things out - emotionally and physically. I have really needed some change, for about 6 years now. Though drastic it may be, change is bound to happen with the course I have chosen. I have a few other places I have been invited to yard camp, or yamp as was suggested in another thread. I have been a primitive tent camper all my life. Heck, for quite a few years, the ex and I didn't even bother with a tent. When we started hauling more stuff and our set up got more involved, I often went to the woods early on Friday (off on Fridays at the time) or late the night before and pitched camp myself before the rest of the crowd we camped with arrived. We got the *best* campsites this way! At any rate, I am a more than capable camper. As I said on another thread, yamp or camp or tramp, who knows what?

Understood that this route is cheaper a/c and can be installed to work better than my current setup. I was attracted to the system not only by not having the short cycling issue but also by the facts that I can both heat and cool as well as run it off a small generator if need be.

I can understand the clammy coolness. Those window shakers don't really drain out all the condensate. I have one in my tear and I want to drill holes in the bottom to drain more water. The bottom is like a pan and the drain is on the side. It will always keep a small amount of water in the pan. I regulate the temp by opening the top vent which allows some cold air to escape. It doesn't short cycle that way.


Oh and you'd better make sure that 360 gets a lot of air. I just brought mine in for the 4th RROD. They made the mistake of giving the repair a lifetime warranty.

The wondiw shaker I have in there now slings the condesate around to evaporate it. It doesn't even have a drain hole Just a low spot in the rear lip. It seldom produces enough water to fill up and overtop the lip. When the teardrop gets moved, some is sloshed out back and front = wete foot of the bed. I do leave the windows cracked and have a small oscillating fan moving air around, but still the short cycle.

And the 360 gets the fan when its on, my ideas for building it in include air circulation for sure!! I guess I was one of the lucky ones in that my first console lasted 4 years - with some serious play time in there - before I got RROD. Which is when I replaced it with this new slim console - and Halo Reach goodness!
