White RV siding?

Hi all,

What is the white material used on the exterior of RVs? Is it flexible and not a huge amount of $? Has anybody here worked with it?

I don't know what is on who's brand of RV but I am about to finish my 2nd build with FRP panel.

I love the stuff bends like butter and machines well with just about any cutting tool. The one tool I found most universal was a surprise to me , my 4" grinder with a standard grinding wheel. You can saw, plung cut, and machine smooth with it. The router with a flush cutting bit was indispensable as well. For God sake wear eye protection the dust and small shards gave me one hell of an eye infection. I bought 9 sheets of 4x9 off of craigslist for $125 . Retail it's about 32 - 35 bucks a sheet.

I know what you are talking about, you mean regular ole RV siding. I do not know of any places, but someone will chime in.

RV parts houses look at you like you are from Neptune if you want to buy anything but a trailer hitch.

The RV specific version of FRP is called Filon Made by Kemlite. It usually is available from an industrial plastics supplier or RV service shop. It comes polar white gel coat finish (smooth) in 0.40 or 0.60 thickness. But be forwarned it is not really that cheap!

Smooth FRP is avalable, search online for FRP it comes in many different colors and textures. Anywhere from 35/sheet for the pebbled white stuff on up. I am looking at the colored pebbled sheets in 5X10 and they are around $50 to $80 per sheet.

Chef_Stan do you have a link for the 5x10 sheets? I've only seen them in 4x8.

Well, I used the big box pebble finish FRP but turned the pebbled side in. Went over it first with the palm sander to knock the glaze off and then glued it on using construction adhesive applied with a notched trowel. Once I had the TD covered, I applied peel and stick exterior sign vinyl to give the FRP some UV protection. I overlapped the vinyl seams and now have an excellent water proof exterior. You can get the vinyl in 4 ft widths so the seams are minimal.
