General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

I did send an email and this is the response I got.

Hello Steve,

You can add a 10 watt 4 ohm resistor to this fan to slow the fan speeds down. This will give you about ½ of each speed. You can purchase these resistors at your local electronics store. I am sending a diagram for the installation of these switches. Please let me know if I can help again!

Thank You,

Jeff Atwell

Jeff also attached a PDF drawing. I am having trouble putting it in this email. When I figure out that part I will post it.

If all else fails, maybe you can try this: http://www.keepandshare.com/htm/file_sh ... _files.php

You could PM Mike and ask him to make it available to everyone on the site.

As I see a lot of tears have vents on the side of the body and a roof light (usually with a fan).
Would there be any benefit in having the fans in the side vents drawing air in, something like a small computer fan would draw in less air and make less noise.
Too much air flow/noise and you could turn one of them off.

For the members that have already modified the fan, is it an acceptable speed? Is it quiet enough? I assume that when the mod is done, the fans ONLY run at the half speeds. Would there be any reason to have the original speeds available?

I ask because I have never experienced a fantastic fan in operation. The computer fans intrigue me for a low cost solution. Please post the PDF mod diagram when possible. Getting ready to order the Fantastic Fan, but if there are better alternatives, I would reconsider.

The Fantastic fan current draw is around 1 amp, 1.5 amps, and 2.6 amps for the 3 speeds. Using two three speed case fans it is less than 1 amp running on high.

I would contact fantastic fan and ask for diagram
but in the mean time when controlling amp's place the resistor in series with the device being controlled to change voltage place the resistor in parallel.

@Shadow Catcher: Good info on less current consumption.

@Pete42: I assume you have already done the resistor mod. If you build a new teardrop, would you use the Fantastic fan again, or would you try the computer fan with the above info in mind?

Looking for a comparison of Fantastic Fan air movement and how quiet or noisy it is with the modification.

Not trying to hijack this thread, and hopefully within the topic of fans. :)
