Ratkitty,

Thanks for your resource guide for hurricanes. Made me smile and laugh.

ON a serious note, be safe and take care of each other.

Good luck......
Wolfgang

We live 5 miles from Sandbridge resort area, they had 2 Tornadoes destroy several big nice homes. Luckily all guests were on mandatory evacuation. We are catching high winds here though. Sitting in the garage with wife watching it outside and staring at my Teardrop. Garage camping, kool!

Just a quick story about Flooding.

An old guy was determined to stay in his house despite a severe Flood warning.
The water was up to his front steps when a boat pulled up to evacuate him.

He responded "No! I believe in God and he will take care of me"

Hours later the water was up to his roof when another boat pulled up to evacuate him and again he responded "No! I believe in God and he will take care of me"

Finally the water came up and almost covered the house. The old guy was standing on the chimney with the water up to his knees when a Helicopter came over head, once again to evacuate him. And again he responded "No! I believe in God and he will take care of me"

After the chopper left, the water came up, swept the old guy away and he drowned.

When he got to Heaven and met God he asked, God, I believed in you all my life and you let me down...Why?

And God replied "What are you talking about? I sent 2 Boats and a Helicopter?

Happy Trails

Ratkity and Len--really great posts!!!!

Thanks for the

P.S. (edit) Please don't think that I don't know the severity of the situation in those affected areas--sometimes a chuckle in the midst of a storm helps bring the stress level down, if only for a moment or two.

Just got power back at my house in eastern NC. Around 2/3 of the electric service in my county is still out or power. More power out than at the coastal communities at this time. Had gust for hours up 65 mph so not as bad as it gets sometimes. Have had a little under 6 inches of rain so far so will probably be some flooding in a day or two in the low lying areas. Haven't had any meaningful damage to this point so all is well and the winds appear to be receding to mid 40 mph gusts. Hopefully others will fare as well in the Northeast as Irene plays out.

Storm center is still 5 hours from Chesapeake Bay, and allready having torrential rain / 60mph gusts for the last 10 hours. At least the power is still on, I am stunned by that. It will go out soon enough, and usually stays out for a week when hurricanes follow this path, but the camping gear is ready ;)

At least the Lateral West fire in the Dismal Swamp that has been choking NC & VA all month is going to be extinguished!

Those parts of the country with droughts and/or wildfires would love one of these:

This was the situation at 10 am this morning, from a NASA satellite. Strongest winds/rain expected here in about 2 -3 more hours.

The main areas that Irene touched in NC got from 2 to 16 inches of rain. It should pick up speed so farther north should not get as much rain as coastal and eastern NC. Hopefully it will weaken significantly and embarrass the weather man.

I am sitting about 60 miles north of NYC, and over 400 feet above sea level. New York State is so confident that this area won't be demolished that they have relocated every single State Police and other state agency aircraft to the airport about 4 miles from my house so that they will be ready for rescue deployment in NYC as soon as the storm passes. In looking at the latest computer models, the 7:00 PM GFS track brings the storm center almost over my house at 2:00 PM tomorrow. Having all of the state's rescue aircraft in one basket right down the street will surely draw a direct strike from the hurricane, and the only thing that could be worse would be if I looked out my window and saw Jim Cantore standing on my front lawn with a TV crew and satellite uplink truck! :( If I saw that, I'd be in my truck and evacuating to Wyoming in 30 seconds!!!

On the bright side for those closer to the shore, I've watched a steady parade of utility company bucket truck convoys from the midwest heading east since Thursday morning, so NYC and Connecticut should have power restored pretty quickly once the storm passes. If our power goes out, we may be down for a while as I'm sure the priority will be to get NYC and the suburbs back online before those of us in the more rural areas.

It's gonna be interesting.....

Greetings from New Jersey. I live in one of Jersey's floody places, so we've gone north to just below the NY border to stay with some folks. Hopefully this will blow through quicker than they expected and I won't go home to a mess.

Take care people...I'm new on the board, but I've been tracking this storm from CA due to having friends in the scootering community and relatives back east.

Sending good thoughts your way and I hope all your trailers weather the storm! Good luck and check in when you are through the worst and have power again!

Once again, I thank God we only have earthquakes out here (Loma Prieta veteran, Berkeley, CA). Ok, so we have fires too...(Bekeley Hills fire 1969, 1991)

Good news is: you have a trailer to sleep in until the storm blows over. Good luck and Godspeed! Hope to hear from everyone soon!!

Just got back from a little drive around the neighborhood.

Lots of trees down, junk all over the neighborhood, flooding in all the usual places.

The worst hit us at about 3;30AM but all the Creeks look good at the moment!

Just realized I live on an Island!!!

The only damage i got , and its my own fault I for got to bring in my Flag.:x

Hope everyone fared as well.

Cover up New England!

Happy Trails

Goodmorning! The storm started last night with showers and has increased some this morning. Winds are still light. I live and work in the Midcoast area of Maine and we are more worried about the high tides and surge. This is where I work and all boats were removed from our docks and hauled.

We have prepared as we would for a Nor'Easter but this will be easier to shovel!!
I hope and pray everyone is safe'n'dry :worship: Amanda
