Getting excited, camping season almost here!!!

Postby Big Dan » Sat Aug 27, 2011 10:01 am

I know most people like to camp in the summer when its worm. I like the fall and early winter season better. More camp sites avalible, less people, fewer bugs. When it comes to snow and rain," love it". I always come prepared. As soon as it cools off I'm going to ramp up my camping. And I'll take lost of pics to share with you all. I have been spending alot of time on google maps, panning over forest roads looking for new places to camp.(satalite view) Next weekend I'll be camping at salmon la sac and while I'm there I'm going to do some exploring to find alternitive places to camp. This trailer camping is alot differant than tent camping when it comes to finding a place to camp. Not used to driving 2 hours only to find all the campgrounds are full. Need to find some good remote spots I can get my teardrop into. Does anyone ells prefer camping in cooler weather?

After the Peak of summer, it is nicer to go. Like you said.. less people at some areas like my favorite beach.

I loved Salmon la Sac...we used to camp there all the time in the late 50's. Caught my first trout at that campground, right near the bridge. That was vacation for us...load up the 57 Ford station wagon, a crappy umbrella tent and we thought it was heaven! Doug

Same here, fewer people, no bugs, usually not hot.
Winter and snow everthing is so much quieter as the snow muffles sound.

Yes, so much quieter in the fall. Sometimes more yellow jackets and wasps, and I'm allergic to those, but sometimes they also depart when the multitudes of summer campers depart.

I'll camp in the fall, but not in snow. I'm inside my house during snow. I've never pulled a trailer in snow....and that is NOT one of the items on my bucket list to do

I've been so slack finishing my tear that I will have to like the late fall and winter out of necessity  . Unless I have another distraction I should be ready soon for the 2nd camping season. Certainly looking forward to cooler weather after a long hot summer here in eastern NC.

Big Dan I too like fall and winter camping.............in Florida I try to get out of the snow here in Ohio.
trouble is last two years it didn't happen I was stuck here, while friends would call and tell, tease me about the weather.
maybe this year I'll do it again.

Love the winter camping! It's why we named our camper The Four Seasons.

It was 108 today and has been over 110 all week. Winter camping is the only option here

I also like winter camping, no bugs, no crowds, but I confess i do have a heat source in my trailer, one of those little buddy heaters.

Nothing much past 15 below zero for me though.
