Hello,
In planning my tear drop it will be with a tubing frame of my design and manufacture. I want it to be complete with ten inches of ground clearance, a total of 54 inches in height, 9 feet long. Part of the frame will be dropped and the tongue will be a gooseneck style so it ends up with 16 inches of ground clearance.
I have selected Toyota truck 14" tires and wheels since they are available, and now need to acquire the correct axle so that when its mounted for the maximum of drop to the supension the end result will be the ten inches of ground clearance.
I note commonly available axles have four inches of drop and am thinking that with the tire size I may need more drop. Are there other axles available to a light trailer with more than a 4 inch drop? Are components available to build a dropped axle of more than 4 inches? Simply put, do I really want to try fabricating my own axle? Before going to College I was a certified welder, but that was long ago.
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
