Plans changed again

ok so my super good on gas little car, died about a month and a half ago. While on the hunt for a new to me vehicle I came across a 2002 f150 ford ranger xlt, I need some input on what people think of this truck as a tow vehicle. The super good news that I got today I new it was a repo truck through the RCMP, but at the local coffee shop today and talking to an officer we ran my plate to get more information on my truck and found out it was sitting in the yard for 3 years. So I'm excited about my new truck and would like any ,more information on them that I should know about.....

6cyl rangers have a decent towing capacity but depends on motor and the trans. I drove one that the ex got that was a 2000 vb6 auto and it had a 4000 lb capacity but my freind had the same in a standard and it had a 2650 capacity. I liked it and miss that little truck but when it sat for a few months it would leak at the back main seal.

When I towed my lil vardo to go campinng on mem day weekend, the shifter cable on my old pt cruiser snapped on the way back to the site, my friend loaned me his 2000 F150 to go pick my vardo up. Driving back I didn't feel the vardo at all and was doin about 75 mph in the slow lane. But when I stopped. To put some gas in it 20 bucks didn't even make the needle move...hopefully yours will be a 6cyl and not the 8.

Good Luck!

Droid,

Is it an F-150 or a Ranger? Both are good vehicles although gas mileage is not a strong point on either.

Take care,
Tom

The 150 is made by Ford and the Ranger is made by Mazda. The rangers often live past 300,000 miles. Mine is at 251,000. Parts are inexpensive and they are easy to work on.

Ditto on the Ranger. I've owned 3 and just bought a new one. 200,000 plus on previous trucks and still ran like champs. No frills but good little trucks. They'll tow a 2000 pound trailer just as well as the F-150 if you have the V6 and they get about 4mpg better mileage.

Thanks for all the replies, it is a F150 extended cab 4 door, seems to get all right gas mileage so far.I'm thinking along the lines of a vardo style trailer once again but to make up for wind loss due to drag I'll put an ereo dynamic canopy on the truck. As I'm trying to get into Search & Rescue in my area with a canine unit and could use a camper style mobile command center.then gas mileage wouldn't have to worry about as it will all be a right off when on duty or doing a training exerciser. It will be very rewarding to help others as well as fulfilling a need in my community.I've only had the truck a few days so far so good it's only two wheel drive but thats good.
