any one been scared to attend there first teardrop gathering

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby ERV » Wed Sep 07, 2011 6:57 pm

Well sense Bob chimed in :? I guess I have too. One of our first gathering was to Indiana. And I am so glad I was able to get Bob to come out of his shell! He really fell in love with our dog Sammy. We had a great time. And still love going over and seeing all of the great folks in Indiana.
But Slow I think you are right by thinking of not going. You can stay home and get the farm ready for winter. Keep the fences up, wash the cows, pick the corn, mow the hay, get all the farm equipment ready for the winter and next year. And while doing all of this the weather might be to hot or rain the whole time while you WORK out in it.
On the other hand, you could go. You'd meet new friends, eat good food, sit around the camp fire and tell big stories ( Bob comes to mind again :) Sleep in the great outdoors, and just plan relax for a few days.
GO Slow, have a good time. We are all waiting to see how you like it and post it on the site.
Erv
PS I like the drawers you made like mine. Going to the back was a good idea. Wish mine sat that high.
And you can show all the gals your drawers too!

Think of it this way slow - if you called a gathering of teardroppers together they would flock to your gathering just to meet you and get your autograph.

I totally agree with the above statement. You are dear to our hearts, Slow!

I echo what the the others said about the overall friendliness of teardroppers. Mark and I have always picked secluded sites and never group camped aside from a couple of church outings. We were a little shy the first time we went to a gathering, but very quickly realized that people go out of their way to make friends and welcome you.

GO!

Yep don't sweat the gathering. You can be as social as you want. Everybody is really easy to talk to, at the very least you can talk about trailers. It's fun seeing how people came up with fixes for the same problems we all had while building.

We don't always hang out at camp, we head into town or go exploring during the day then head back for the potluck. Usually we are heading into town to pick something up for the potluck. The last couple of times, we camped "light" meaning we didn't bring much. I brought store bought cookies for the potluck. Hopefully I can bring my BBQ and smoke a brisket for the potluck this time.

See you there?

Slow: Quick reply since I need to go bact to work:

I was worried about my first scooter rally. You all have a common interest, so it will be fine. All kinds of folks will be there but teardrops and camping bring them all together. It will be like a big family. You will meet more nice people than you ever imagined. And you know a lot of these people already...they are already friends, not strangers. It will be fun. People will welcome you. Show them your teardrop and your camp and tour others. It will be fine..it's a special interest group, so anyone who shows up with an interest will be welcome. You will wonder later why you were ever worried!

Go slow, but GO, SLOW! :D

I know it's tough sometimes being hard-tied to some land, especially if it your livelyhood, but you'll never know how it will be if you never point your truck that direction.

Most real cowboys I ever knew were tougher than most folks. So you know you got the a__whipping part handled if it came to that. :) That leaves only room for a good time. Hope you can make it to that gathering. I'd love to read your comments after. Bet you'd have some fun.

Slow: I haven't been around these parts long, but I'm hoping someday I'll get to meet you at a rally. So saddle up and point your horse to the rally. Then you will have stories to tell me when we finally meet (I'm in CA...it will be awhile before I get to your neck of the woods!)

Don't worry about what others think. Don't worry about what you think others might expect. All anyone wants is a nice person with a teardrop to come to the rally. I'm sure you will have plenty of tales for us city slickers, and will have no trouble at all talking about teardrops...modifications, layouts, gear, shelters, etc.

Remember that nobody bites. Your golden ticket is that trailer behind your truck. You are well known, and you will be welcomed. Nobody will turn you away, or anything else. There is nothing to be afraid of.

I'm the same way...I could talk myself out of things easily, from fear of not fitting in, not having a good enough trailer, not cooking well enough, etc. But all those fears are in my head and not real. I know that if I showed up with a tear at a rally people would be asking me all kinds of things and I wouldn't be worried a bit. They will start the conversation...just answer the questions, and soon you'll be talking like you've known these folks for years...and you have known them awhile, so they aren't strangers!!

Good Luck Slow!!! I want to hear how you liked your first rally!! You will be an inspiration to me, who might be more shy than you!!

Slow just remember you may or may not meet everyone and you may or may not get to do everything others are doing.
what that means is you will have to keep going back year after year until you do meet everyone
but I'm afraid you, like most won't get to do everthing others are doing.
some may go to town to eat or shop while others stay in camp and eat some may sight see others stay in camp and visit
some leave early others stay until the last roundup.
but if you don't go you can bet the cows you won't be able to meet and greet anyone.
so saddle up hit the trail and mosey on over you'll have fun.

Hey Slowcowboy, Is there still a house factory in Riverton. My brother worked there many years ago. I think it was called Style Homes.

Good thing you are out looking for people to sell your corn to! Most folks want fresh corn, but they buy the stuff from the store because they don't know where to get the good stuff! Fresh makes a huge difference...the sugars haven't turned!!

Just keep selling corn and talking to folks. You'll find out most don't bite. Now the guy with the backwards tear...he might have bit!!! Sounds like he was in a bit of a rush to go camping! Too bad he was in such a hurry...he missed out on good corn!! And shooting the breeze with a fellow teardrop owner!!

Keep up the good work, Slow!!! And get everyone eating the good kind of corn!!

Slo, just take a great big pot and a lot of fresh sweet corn with you. Boil up some corn on the cob for your fellow campers. Have fun!

Mike, if you can afford to go, do it! People will look forward to meeting you and making you feel welcome. I promise you, you won't regret it.

I'm not a shy person, as I'm sure you can tell from some of my post but I'm not an extrovert either. But I LOVE to camp and I LOVE to meet people and see their beautiful Teardrops or tiny trailers.

The first gathering I went to was filled with problems. It rained the entire way there and didn't stop until Saturday night. My galley had rain pouring through the hinge. The air conditioner shorted out (in the middle of July - that was not a good thing). But, I met some of the nicest, friendliest and most helpful people ever! I still camp with a lot of them to this day.

So don't be afraid to take this step. I have a feeling that if you do go, you will be smiling all the way home!

I for one would enjoy meeting you...you make me crazy sometimes but I really like you. Go and have fun buddy! ;)

good luck, Slow!!! Maybe you need the Slowcowboy Teardrop rally at your farm!! Will your corn hold until the rally in Colorado (I'm not sure when it is!) Maybe campers in those parts would buy your corn...it is camping food, after all!

Good luck, and you are right...Someone else has the last Word!! Hang in there...if you can't make it to the upcoming rally there will be another you can make it to. Things do work out for the best sometimes!!
