Got Somthing Done - Small Progress

Postby Classic Finn » Thu Feb 23, 2006 1:55 pm

Ok here is a small piece of progress -

A start of the galley cabinet doors are beginning to take shape...
Center of the cabinet door is Karelian Birch and Normal Finnish Birch on the outer parts...

The next one almost done as well..Whew...clear marine varnish still needs
to be applied..

Thank you for your nice comments...

Now I have to figure out the front panel and how to design that... Dont
have a cooler picked out yet so I have to look for them here to get the right sizes figured out..

But slowly will make a nice outcome...since Im definitely not a pro at this..

The inside cabinets will also have the Karelian Birch Centers...
I will be using wooden handles and door knobs.. of the same wood..

Heikki,

I like that figured wood too. You are going to have a real show piece if you build your entire teardrop with that kind of wood!

Heikki, I am suitably impressed with the craftmanship of what you have achieved. In other words " that sure is cool"
Cheers

I'd love to get my hands on about 100 bd ft of that Karelian Birch. It sure is beautiful.

Chris,

Being the pro that you are, I thought you had barns full of figured wood... all rough of course, waiting for the thickness planer, to reveal what you've been looking for all these years... :D

Our big neighbor to the East of us has huge supplies of the wood, which used to belong to Finland all the way to the biggest fresh water lake - Lake Laatokka...

I wish I could get some from there... but at about 40 - 50 USD per sqare
meter...

Here it is expensive also since it is rare...
