Wasp Help

Postby Bigwoods » Tue Sep 06, 2011 9:22 pm

We have a wooden frame built around our front door. It is probably 4" deep and hallow but really makes the door attractive. It is against a brick wall. My problem is that wasps have invaded and are nesting using the lines between the brick at an entryway.

I have tried several spays but nothing is working. I think the laugh at me the next day. We are getting so many wasp it is dangerous and my wife got stung Sunday. Any ideas on how to kill them?

A neighbor suggested carbon monoxide from the car. I just can't get the spay back to where ever the nest is. I told my wife I was going to gas them and she is afraid I meant gasoline and will burn down the house. Caddy Shack all over again.

I just stuck my face in a wasp nest, by accident, the other day. I went directly up to HD and bought some spray. I bought Rescue W-H-Y spray http://www.rescue.com/product/why-spray ... cket-nests It drops them instantly and they don't come back. I think it is all natural, it does smell good. The key is to spray them at night when they are home and calm.

2 things I have found that work quite well. A fake wasp nest, you hang it just inside your entry and it makes the wasps feel someone is already setting up up shop so they go elsewhere. Also a wasp trap works good They can both be purchased somewhere like Menards or Home Depot. I use coke in the wasp trap, it,s basically a container with a hole in the middle where the wasps fly up and in and then can,t find there way back out. Once a couple go in, many more usually follow them in, then when it,s cool at night they slow down and you can either kill em or just wait a couple of days and they just die.

I have always had luck using any brand of "ant and roach spray" on yellow jacket nests. I have found it to more effective than the other sprays sold for killing wasps. Cheaper, too.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

hmmm, we have always had good luck with the normal raid spray cans sold in any store. we spray directly in the nest, and/or any hole in the wood. might take a day or so of spraying but can't remember ever having problems after that.

If you could get your hands on a CO2 fire extinguisher, and discharge it all along the frame, the vapor would do the trick into all the crooks and crannies...

The stuff is cold enough to freeze the little darlings, and since it also seriously displaces the oxygen, they'll suffocate at the same time.

Seriously...and there's no cleanup. Be sure it's CO2, not the dry chemical type. Drop by your local fire station, and they'll probably do the job for you...especially if you take homemade cookies.

I am a exterminator! Use seven dust insecticide. Get the dust in the cracks and no more bees! You can make a duster out of a plastic pop bottle. Drill a hole in the top insert a peace of tubing or a bendable straw. With a funnel put the seven dust in the bottle about 3 inches deep and give the cracks where the bees are going in a shot. It does not take a lot just one puff will do it.

A video camera a big can wd-40 and a lighter. The vid camera is so you can film it for memorys and share it with us. Oh and a six pack of beer helps to. Consume the beer first it will help numb the stings and distort you rationality. Turn on the camera, might want to turn the sound off. Due to uhm alot of unscripted words flying if the beer hasent taken hold yet. Then spray wd-40 on everything, now there getting mad and flying around use the lighter to ignight the wd-40. This will burn off there wings and they will drop to the ground. At this point roar loudly and start stomping on them like godzilla. Hours of fun to be had.

If your sucessful there will be a crowd watching and some one will yell " let me try that" hand them the can and lighter the fun and laughter is coming soon. Dont forget the camera.

All this sounds like a lot of fun. Behind the wall is a log cabin built in 1878. Can't see any of it but the walls are 15" thick. Don't think I wanna get fire involved.

Thanks for all the great ideas, I'll let you know if I kill them little buggers.

Not sure how the wood is finished, but we use lacquer thinner in squeze bottles to clean stuff at work. Works great on wasps too. Might try caulking like mentioned above, or if you have room for the nozzle, filling the void with spray foam.
