Sealing the Trailer

This is the greatest place for information. I have read till my head hurts. But I have a questions about sealing of the trailer.

I have read that most people use the black rooding tar on the bottom of the TD. So in building the floor would this be the process to take:
1. Build out of treated or regular lumber.
2. Do I put CPES on at this point or goto.....
3. Coat bottom with Black roofing tar.

On the top and sides the end result I am shooting for is painted top and part way down the sides. Then the rest just clear sealer. So the next question is sealing and painting.
1. Build TD
2. Coat everything outside with CPES or Epoxy?
3. Then start priming and painting.
4. Then coat everything with a spar varnish.

On the bottom as a floor I would not use treated wood. Don't want to sleep with the chemicals. I used a white sealer that was for roofs. I thought it was something like Electroseal or some such thing. Comes in a 0ne gallon plastic bucket and goes on like paint. Someone will chime in with the name. I put it right over the bare wood which was an exterior grade fir plywood.

On the top...If you want a color why not just use a color epoxy and save the second painting step. That is what I did. Just use the clear on the lower section and cover the whole thing with a UV protector, like Minwax Helmsman.

Polar seal is one of a dozen names a white pigmenter rubberized mobil home roof coat. Very heavy bodied and a great filler sealing joints almost completely. You can recoat almost as fast as you can get around the trailer. I did every square inch of eggbert inside and out. He has sat outside in the mud since I stole his trailer frame to make the chuckwagon.





I stole the clearance lights off of him 3 weeks ago so in the process I rolled him over to see what 2 1/2 years of setting on the ground had done.

No swelling, no bugs anywhere around and he looks good enough to bolt back up to a 40 x 48 HF frame. I am all in favor of the stuff

Thanks for all the repies everyone. So you can use just about anything that would have a emulsion sealer.

That's what I did (no CPES)

1. Coat everything inside and outside with CPES
2. Then start priming and painting
3. Build TD

That's the order that I did it. Much easier to paint when the sides are horizontal. YMMV
