Teardrop and Tiny Trailer Replicas

Postby jasen7 » Wed Sep 14, 2011 6:01 pm

Does anyone think there would be a market for small scale, wooden, detailed, handmade replicas?

Just wondering because I am thinking about building some. Usually in the winter I am building bird houses, and furniture, but I am looking for something new to build.

I would be interested particularly if it is from plans I provide.

I might be interested! I'm about to sell my teardrop, and it would be neat to have a little model of it. I have every dimension you could possibly need. What size and how simple/complex are you thinking?

As far as size, I am thinking on the 1:8 scale. So, a 5' x 8' would roughly be 7'' x 12'' As far as detail goes, It would really be up to the customer and how much they want to spend. I could go as far as building it on a replica frame with leaf springs and working lights!

So here is my plan. For starters just to see how much time and money I would have into these, I am going to build a detailed Generic Benroy. I will then post pictures of it to see if it sparks any interest. I will also come up with a price after the build and the replica will be for sale. After that, if anyone is interested in having me build them a replica of their TD or TTT they can send me a picture and size of it. Then I will go about building it.

After I build it I will send them pictures of it and the option of buying it. I WILL NOT!! require money up front! The reason I will not require money up front is because, I myself don't believe in paying for something without first seeing it! I also don't believe in selling somebody something without them first seeing it!

I designed a couple of trailer and tow vehicle models five years ago with the idea of selling them around Christmas, but never got to the selling part. The photo below is a "canned ham" TTT with tow vehicle. I also started a TD and a sportier looking tow vehicle but didn't finish either one. To gauge their size, the TTT from rear to front of the tongue is 6 1/2" and the cabin is 3 1/2" high. The overall height from ground up is about 4 1/2".

I can't find the set in the photos above and don't remember what I did with them. I have unfinished, a TTT, a TD and a tow vehicle. Someday when I run out of things to do I'll finish a set of each trailer and two vehicle just to display.

Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But, that gets boring...so I go back to being me.
