I quit, cold turkey, in 1976. I had just watched my dad die at 55 and his brother, just a few months later. My aunt said, "The doctor told Chuck (my uncle) that he would die if he didn't quit smoking, but he just couldn't." At that moment, the clouds parted, I heard the heavenly chorus, a beam of light shone on me and a voice said, "Ya wanna die too, Dumbass???". I quit that day. It was a bugger, but I knew it was now or never.
Anything that you have to do to quit smoking is good, whether it's the vapor thingees, hypnosis, acupuncture, or whatever.
Good for you MJ, and yer lady too. I bet her hair no longer smells like an ashtray

I'm lucky in that my "habit" costs $25 for a three month supply of opiates! Although the doctor will allow me two pills per day, I cut the pills in quarters and use about half a pill per day, ha.

$5K/year cash (more before taxes) is a lot and I'm sure you'll be able to have more fun.

Good job.

Cheers,

Gus

When I was taking a class in treatment for addictions it came out that tobacco (as manipulated) is more addictive than heroin.
I m eternal grateful I never started.
I wish you both well!

CONGRATS!!!!! :applause: Glad to hear it !!!

There's so many benefits, and you're already seeing your health change for the better. Food will taste different, you'll smell things differently, sleep better, the bp going down ... ALL worth it !

Make sure you've really QUIT and not just STOPPED.

Way to go. I had to use the Chantix a few years back to quit. You will feel a lot better and your wallet will thank you. (I ended up also quitting blood pressure medication and bought a trailer with the money that I saved).

Way to go MJ and Poor girl :applause:
On Dec 1st of '88 my wife bet me that she could quit longer than I could, she smoked for several years afterward but I never went back to that nasty habit. Even after all those years I still have an occasional craving for a cigarette. Guess once an addict..... :o

RE: Vaping

Postby mezmo » Thu Sep 15, 2011 12:48 am

Hi madjack,

Congrats to you and your wife on your first step in eliminating smoking.
I was surprised that you feel your health is improving so fast [good to
hear though!] - but then If you think about it, maybe, it isn't the nicotine
that is the main culprit in the effects of smoking as you mentioned. I'm
sure it's best to get off nicotine too eventually, but if eliminating 90 per
cent of a problem by vaping is so beneficial then that is the logical thing to
do. Thanks for posting the link to the vaping web site. I've some siblings
who should stop smoking for their health too, so I'll check it out and see
if I can steer them in that direction.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Congratulations and keep it up!!! Everyone who quits has to find their own way....and it sounds like your path is set. I looked at that e-cig forum and that sure looked supportive. Its amazing how good the online help is. Keep celebrating those milestones!
