we do it.. but dry roast the black beans first.. then good them with the brown rice.. and then grate fresh ginger root over it.. :)

I will have to try this. How do you dry roast the beans?

just place them in a stainless steel fry pan.. hmm maybe medium heat.. for several minutes.. stirring constantly..

We do 1/2 cup of black soybeans.. to to cups of short grain brown rice

2 1/2 - 3 cups of water.. and about 2 teaspoons of tamari

then pressure cook

bring to a slow boil... by 15-20 minutes at medium low heat.. then put the cover on the cooker turn to high.. when the pressure is up reduce the heat to low.. placing a flame spreader under it.. and cook for about 50 min.

 Stop it!! You are making me hungry!!! I have not had a good dinner of black beans and rice with pork chops in way to long!! I know the best place in town for that...it is on the other side of town! Road trip...

Good morning all. Took the morning off and trying to catch up on some chores. Did a couple of little things on the Ketza in hopes of a camping trip soon.

We still have plenty of sun shine, however the humidity has come down some.
temps are still in the high 80s to low 90s here in Orlando. It does feel nice to have the lower humidity.

Black beans

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Wed Sep 14, 2011 10:53 pm

:D Does it have to be a stainless steel pan to roast the black beans....or could it be a cast iron skillet?? cuz we've got a FEW of those lying around.

Life's uncertain...eat dessert first. Check out our cooking channel for cast iron:

8) Rise and shine and good morning to all!
Coffee in hand and ready for another day.

I will not make a pot of beans just for my self (and I would be the only one eating them) so, I will go to afore mentioned restaurant today or tomorrow.

Make it a great day where you are.

We have a "ditto" day with the weather.

Good Morning DEAD THREADERS.................

A wunderful day in the neighborhood. It looks like fall has hit your Nation's Capital. The temps will be dropping like a rock - highs may get into the 70s So - soon the leaves will be turning colors (a beautiful site for Glenn) and time to commune with nature...........

The oldest child will be home this weekend and we will have a great time.

Rod - enoy the Beans & Rice - and get some to take home - maybe you can get them in the house to enjoy them as much as you.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes it has to be stainless... :R :R

before I wrote that out I was picturing using my cast iron... yet I do remember that I do use my stainless for that..

It might be easier to get the heat "right" for dry roasting.

They did not want you using aluminum.. or non stick "tools"...

IT IS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes indeedy it is the end of the work week and the beginning of the real work weekend. Got stuff to do and time to enjoy a nice sunny - but very cool weekend. The wife has me making a new headboard for the bed. Should be fun - just need to figure it out - design wise. Get me one of the KREG tools - drilling rig - made a set of shoji doors - so I'll use that as the basic design.

OK - you all get out of bed - take in some really deep breaths and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
