scamp trailer?

anyone have a scamp 13 footer?
i'm thinking about getting one with the couch/bunkbeds in the front.
if you have one you oppinion would be appreciated.

I don't have a Scamp but I do have its cousin a U-Haul ct-13.
They are almost identical to the Scamp on the inside. My wife likes it better than our Tear. It is nice if the weather turns bad and you get stuck inside for a day. Tows like a dream a little different than my tear but once you get use to it you don't know it's there.

My parents had a 13 ft Scamp. The front bunks always seemed a little narrow to me. Other than that a nice little camper.

I had two 16 foot scamps just like a 13 footer except the 16 has a roadside closet.
front bunks are fine the upper is for kids lower has a banana shaped pillow insert that makes it wide enough for an adult.
some things to watch out for are check the width between the wheel and the top of the wheel well
the axel is rubber torsion and if you leave it sit for a couple of months and don't jack it up and take pressure off the wheels.
the rubber will fail and wheel will hit fender well.
easy fix but just something to check out.
also the door is curved and the bottom relaxes and uncurls letting water in and it can become water logged.
even with these faults it is a good trailer.

Scamp, casita, u-haul, burro and big foot are all fiberglass Egg campers.
I looked for one for quite a while and seems they hold their Value very well. Beware of Scammers, they are out there and they are even trying to sell you a casita that they do not own. They make a great upgrade from a Teardrop. Scamp even makes a 5th wheel model if you have a truck to tow it with. All are light weight. Several sites are out there. Search Fiberglass Rv. only thing i want the front bunks for would be grand kids, generaly its just wifie and i. figure leave the dinette set for sleeping and sit on the couch.

thinking the 13 would pull nice behind my ranger with a v-6

nice thing about the scamp brand is you can get any part you need from the factory, such as cusions and trim and such , even down to decals. thats an advantage if you buy used.

i'll keep thinkin and ponderin on it.

We have a 13' 1985 model. As you can see in the pic, the 26yr old torsion axle 'gave up the ghost' sometime back. What started as a 22.5* down angle leading arm, ended up about 10* up & the only flex left was in the sidewalls of the tires . Finally ordered a new 2K Dexter torflex with brakes & installed it week before last. Thing tows at same level as my TV now. I'm just starting interior 'rehab' & plan to eliminate the front couch/bunks in favor of a 2-person dinette w/porta-potti storage under 1 seat. I'll then convert the rear dinette into a permanent 'full-size' bed with storage underneath. When towing the Scamp home from Memphis area (about 140mi) I got same fuel efficiency as when towing the TD. Don't plan to give up the TD but expect this one will get more use as it's gettin' harder & harder to get dressed lying down Gonna take a lotta work & clean-up but I think we'll enjoy it




The new axle w/ actual trailer tires'n new wheels make a world of difference in both appearance & ride

Scamps are great. I had one, it was fun. My brother sold it and got a Casita.

We got a Scamp 13 like the model your are looking at. Just came back from an 8 day trip (some 1300 miles). Had all kinds of weather except snow. Kept us warm and dry. When you stop and put up the bunks you gain a lot of storage area which comes in handy. We travel with 2 dogs each around 40 lbs and do not find it too constraining space wise. We pull it with a v6 Sierra and have no problems at all. It is a great little trailer

awsome sandy, we have a cocker and a rat terrier that will travel with us at times. when we tow with our liberty. no place to put them in my ranger.


i do like that idea about a small two place dinett in front. but with the bunk beds our grandkids can go with us easier.

most of the use will be for travel, we like to go places but those hotels and restraunts will kill you$$$$$$$$

national parks are about 16-18 dollars a night,,, and if your over 62 i think it is you get it half price. $8 a night and we can save a lot of money.

my neighbor has a 13' Scamp and he loves it. He can't wait til I get my little trailer so we can go camping together with our trailers..He bought a little space heater for his, and he said it got a little chilly once up at Tahoe, but other than that, he loves it.

I like the finish on the 5th wheel pictured above...if I had one I'd have it painted like a baby Airstream....

i think one of those hot oil electrtic radiators would be perfect in cold weather for it.

i think i'm pretty sold on the scamp. being able to easily get replacement parts is a major plus factor if i buy a used one. even if getting stuff from the factory might cost a little more.

John in either a scamp or casita 13 footer you would take up a lot of usable room if you used an oil filled heater.
I used a small ceramic heater in my 16 footers and camped in 30 degree weather trailer got warm not hot but warm.
But I too like the oil filled hearters they hold the heat longer and run less.
if you can find a 13 footer with a heater already installed be aware they put out way to much heat and are hard to regulate for that "just right temp".
