Yes. That is what I had in mind to do for a microwave and a toaster oven. I wrap a small 5 cup programmable coffee pot in a towel and put it in the microwave for traveling. and that's pretty much my appliances on the countertop.
I like your strap idea. My last two overnighters I just set them on the floor of the camper.

One trick I used in my travel trailer to keep the glass tray in the microwave from bounching around and possibily breaking
I would always placed a roll of paper towels standing on end into the microwave.

The microwave I used in my pop-up I kept the styrofoam that came with the microwave it held the glass portion in place no bounce at all.

Thanks for a great tip! I had not given thought to the glass rotary table bouncing around in the microwave. I reckon we've been lucky so far that it hasn't broke considering some of the roads we've been on.

Depending on the size of the microwave and the glass plate, a pizza box is perfect for protecting the plate as well. We had a microwave where a 10" pizza box was the exact fit for the plate to be placed in the box which then fit snug in the microwave interior cavity.

I gotta be honest, never thought of it, and mine never broke, however it is in the front cabinet, but I've driven from North Carolina to the UP of Michigan and it never broke, maybe lucky?

I think it is the "ounce of prevention" thing in play. Like you, I don't want ours to be the first one to break that we hear about, especially when we get to the boonies and have prepared several days worth of meals counting on the microwave to heat them up. Granted, we can still heat them by some other means but, hey, why not preclude problems by preparing for them in advance? A suitable pizza box is cheap insurance.

Just wrapping it in a dish towel should do .... a cardboard box might attract bugs ...
If you have room a small Toaster oven is very Handy , very inexpensive , light , and does things a MW won’t ...

I have a little camp kitchen that I have been using for many years. We just put the plastic dishpan inside the microwave and it seems to hold the glass tray down, it does not even bounce out of the track. The crockpot lid on the other hand is a different story...

My friend has a convection microwave in his TT. I must confess, I am in lust- the best of both worlds, microwave and toaster oven combined.
