Legally its the same as a luggage rack on the rear receiver. The bigger question is, what does a person in the box do to the tongue weight? I'd consider one or two stabilizer jacks so you don't bend anything important.

is it really a 3x3 Teardrop "Trailer"??

Just joking...it follows the car, so it's a trailer to me!! Wow!! Amazing!! Kinda like that. But I don't need another trailer right now!!

So far, I've built a woody (the 1/2 Nelson) that's 8 feet long, a 245 lb (1/4 Nelson"Stacker)" that is 6 feet long, and a 3x3 (1/8th Nelson) TD that levitates off of the rear hitch. On the drawing board is my ultimate and final TD of them all, (in my humble opinion) since it will weigh absolutely nothing and be invisible to the naked eye........

Roly there are two things I would like to know.
1) what made you think of a 3X3?
2) Did you draw plans or just wing it as you built? :hammerhead:

I have been amazed at all the builds on this site from CT conversions, to teardrops, to standies, to foam and now yours, great job.

Pete, I have a sketch pad right next to my big chair while I am relaxing and watching TV. Somehow, these goofy ideas just keep popping into my head, and when they do, I draw a preliminary design to just record it for the future. Ocasionally, I leaf back through the often-altered, one-of-a-kind scribbled sketches and it refreshes my memory. If it might work, I make even more changes and hunt up an old cereal box and start pasting together a scale model of what ever it is. I think I should make a "Memory Display Case" for the many rediculous teardrop models that never made it to the woodshop floor. I recently found the sketch and scale model of the yet-to-be-built, Slipper-Inn, which could slip right into my old Chevy S-10 Blazer during travel and slip then right out when at a campground, with some fake wheels flippng down from the bottom. Hey, the cardboard cereal box model seems to work fairly well......Hmmm.

The challenge for me, is to build it full-size, make the required changes in order to have it come out right, then finally complete it and actually go camping in it. I've never considered myself an engineer, but my brother (who was an engineer) said that trait and my life long carpentry experience seemed to work fairly well together. I just have to get out of this empty house that the sweet wife and I enjoyed for 56 years. Some old folks shrivel up and die when their mate passes on, and I don't want that to happen to me. You see, I still have a bunch of items left on my Burket List.

After camping in the 3x3, I realized that turning around in it was a problem, due to the restricted 32 inch wide bed. So, after I got it back in the shop, I cut out a section of the curved front wall (which is actually at my right side), hinged it to lift up and out, then added a flip-down section of floor to make it a full 40 inch wide section of bed at my shoulders. So goes the 'build and alter' game. I never tire of it, and it keeps me off of the couch and out of the beer bars, and away from all of those loose 80 year old gals. Naw, just kidding, I'll continue to do my camping solo (for now). Thanks for your expression of interest though.
8) :? ;) Roly, letting the sawdust fly, now where did I put my measuring tape?? Plans, plans, I don't need no stinking plans!
