Porch light

For those of you that have porch lights. Did you connect the wiring on the inside of the trailer or on the outside ? Any Pictures. Thanks.

I have decided, when I build my trailer, to use a solar garden lamp as a porch light. No battery draw and they are super cheap at the Borg. Just a coupla bux.
I know this doesn't answer your question.

Mine will be wired from between the roof and the headliner. I'll be doing that Sunday night.

We added ours and ran plastic wire chase inside down the wall to conceal the wire.

Thanks everyone. I decided to wire from within. I built a small box big enough to push the wires from the light into the box. This way i can pull the wires back out if i want to change for a different design litght. I'm making slow but steady progress.

I have solid 3/4" walls so there was no option when I wanted to run wires for my "porch lights".



I used 3/4" plastic wiremold channel from Lowe's, and painted it to match the blue exterior. You can see it next to the door frame in the pic above. I modified one of the outside corner connector pieces to conceal the end of the molding, where the wire goes to the outside light.

I won't use a porch light on my next build. All it does is draw bugs to your door if you choose to leave the light on to help find your trailer at night. If you want to use it to see a bear eating your cooler, wire it to an inside switch.

Good point! Didn't think of that! An alternative is a small pathway light down low under the door way to light the ground beneath the door. Not to bright, so the neighbors won't mind, and still find your way back from a bathroom run in the dark!

I jus keep one a them cheap l.e.d. flashlights handy fer them late nite/early mornin bathroom runs. "I" ain't afeared a the dark !

You might want to look into ground effect leds:




One strip on the frame, below each door and you'll have a nice, non obtrusive, glow.

I agree with this one. Those little courtesy lights are nice. Or, how about skipping the wiring altogether and carry a couple of solar yard lights that you can just stick in the ground outside the door.

I have a solar spot light mounted on a small 1x6 board that is about 10" long. I set in the sun during the day. I move it under the tear or on top of the tear at night to light my way at night. It works great and No drain on my battery!
