Basic Question: Has anyone built the Campster 12, or similar, on a HF 4x8?

I have access to tubular aluminum(free) to extend the front, back and sides. I'm just worried that it may be too much for the trailer, especially the width.

TV is not a problem. We have a Chevy Express 3500 15-passenger.

I am basically cheap, and poor, and want to keep this whole project on as tight a budget as possible. We will probably get it campable by this spring and then refine/improve with time.

Pete you might want to start beating the bushes for a old unloved pop up and use it's frame. They are sprung heavier and already 6' wide which will save you a ton of work. You should be able to pick one up used for about what the HF trailer will cost.

With standard construction you are gonna wind up in the 1800 - 2000 pound range thats a lot to ask of those little bolt together trailers.

I know 1st hand Chubby is 10' x 5'- 7" outside dimensions and loaded I had him weighed. He was 1830 #

And he is on a HF axle set and a modified frame!

Yes you are correct the frame was a dock safety rail in a previous life.
Now welded top rail to top rail and has become chubby's frame.

You need to get up to Peru to the fall gathering 10-14 and get a closer look at my creations ,
then you wouldn't be so generous with your praise. :laughter:

You're too hard on yourself. I've gleaned a bunch of ideas off your builds and posts on other's builds.

Don't think I'll make this year's. My oldest son is trying to finish up his Eagle Scout project.

Yes, I am VERY proud! :applause: :applause:

He is finishing out a classroom at our church. Drywall, Ceiling, Paint, all good things for helping dad build a camping trailer when the time comes
