leaf springs

Postby dano » Tue Oct 04, 2011 10:14 am

Going to build number three.
So I’m not sure Torflex axle or leaf springs. I did leafs last build but forgot the load for each spring.
Anyone know what would be a good spring load for a 700 pound. trailer.
I want it to have double eye leafs and the least amt I can find is 1000 per spring. That make it 2000 pounds and if the trailer is 700 wont it bounce all over the road.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Look at these....

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... _200365449

Documentation says 1000 lbs per pair....

To soften ride (reduce capacity) you could always remove a leaf....

Thanks Dale.
But Im worried that at 1000# it would be too little . 700# trailer plus 100# of camping junk =800#. Get to camp site take out 100# of camp junk and add 350# of me and my wife=1050#.
I like the 1500# springs what do ya think?

Get 2000 springs and take a few leaves out if ride is too stiff....

When I was in trailer supply I was looking at springs for my chassis ....Funny things become apparent, 4 leaves rated at 2000lbs, 3 leaves rated at 1500lbs, 2 leaves rated at 1000lbs.....

Chris
"Wont you be adding stabilizers??? " I never had them on the last two but is it something I should put on? Now it would be easy to do. Guess they make sence, I just never thought about them. I always kept my rigg hooked up to my truck and just jumped in at night time.

Just thinking that your trailer would tow nice with the 1000# springs. If you go over when sleeping (quit jumping around in there!), put down some jacks. No bounce, no strain on the springs.

I got a flexi-ride from them....came with nothing to protect the studs IE a piece of cardboard wrapped...FED EX dinged up a stud, had to replace it. They shipped right away...had it in just a couple of days, but you need to catch their production schedule just right. Doug

Doug,
I seem to be going back and fourth between Torflex and leaf spring axle. I like leafs better because I think they are cool. Torflex and Flexie-ride may be better but I just dig leaf springs.
I think Im going to try southwest 4" drop leaf spring axle and see what happens.
(unless someone tells me not to get one).

Anyone else running this axle??

Tks

I've used the 4" drop w/ springs on the first 4 trailers...bought them locally though, allows for a larger wheel/tire combo and not put the trailer way up in the air. Doug
