RIP Steve Jobs, the Edison of our generation...

Postby caseydog » Wed Oct 05, 2011 8:33 pm

Only 56 years old, Steve Jobs lost his biggest battle -- the battle for his life today. Whether you like Apple products or not, there is no way to deny that Steve Jobs changed the way you do anything online, and even the way you make a phone call.

I can only imagine what he could have done with another twenty years, but cancer doesn't care about that. It just kills anyone -- even visionaries.

For sure! I forgot my MacBook Pro at the shop and am home struggling with the malware- (or SOMETHING) laden PC at home. He truly was a visionary who saw what and how the average person needed to be/should be connected and engaged in today's world.

I'm not a fan of Steve Jobs. I was privileged to have owned many Apple computers back when they were first starting (Apple ][, Apple IIc, Apple IIgs). The last straw was when he dropped all support for the Apple II line like an unwanted step-child in favor of the Macintosh line. It's not so much that they quit building them as that they pulled all support and removed all resources (it seemed like we didn't exist even though my machine was less than a year old.) Forced to convert to IBM (I couldn't afford a Mac) I thought that I'd never look back, but I am now an owner of an iPod Touch, and I like it. I doubt that I'd ever own a Mac ... but then again, ever is a long time from now.

Despite the history, I can't help but feel that touch of loss from loosing such a businessman and innovator. Apple is now one of the largest corporations in the world and they thrive even in the anti-corporate environment that exists today. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and associates.
