Source for chrome dust/grease caps?

Postby Aaron Coffee » Fri Oct 07, 2011 11:12 am

Anyone have a source for chrome grease caps/dust covers for hubs. I have a dexter axle and they take 1.98 diameter grease caps and I searched the web and haven't been able to find any in that size. I can find 2 sizes for cars and I can find bearing buddy type in chrome, but I am looking for just the regular style in chrome. Any help?
Thanks
Aaron

Bought a pair of zinc caps, and a little metal polish and they look shiney, not as shiney as chrome but it will work. Am contemplating buying another pair and have them chrome plated, but have two major concerns. 1. price, 2. how much thickness will the plating add, the caps are a very tight fit.

Powder coaters have a "chrome" finish that is pretty good. They can tape off the portion that snaps into the hub. Chrome is measured in microns, so the thickness isn't, usually, an issue. The problem can be installing them, no matter the finish, without damaging them

Try a Marine store. They offer bearing buddies which are available in a chrome finish and you can get black rubber cups to cover the end with the zerk fitting. May not be exactly the look you want but another alternative to consider.

Zinc electroplating at home is SUPER easy and can be done with home products for small size parts. Add brightener to the process and it will look almost identical to chrome once polished.
