Call me crazy!!!

Postby tinksdad » Mon Oct 10, 2011 11:31 am

I only get one weeks vacation this year with the new job. The girl friend ("she who camps with me") works for the school district. We are taking the week of Spring Break 2012 (that's the crazy part). We have some time to plan. Haven't decided where we are going yet; but it probably won't be camping. We talked about a cruise, talked about Cancun, even talked about finding someplace in the mountains with hot tubs and other frills. I'm leaning towards water and beaches.

Not saying we are senior citizens yet; but we are chronologically experienced. Don't have a problem with flying someplace. An 8-10 drive from NW Mississippi would be acceptable as well. Looking for something to re-generate so to speak.

Any body got suggestions where we can get away to relax a bit without running into hordes of college kids partying their *sses off? I'm sure there are places like that exist, and somebody out there knows where they are.

Unless you like LOTS of people and the party bar scene, I would not go to Cancun. My wife and I went there a number of years ago, with a side trip to Cozumel (to go diving), and were supposed to return to Cancun for a few days before going home. We stayed in Cozumel the balance of the trip, because we both didn't like the whole party scene in Cancun. We would return to Cozumel (quiet and provincial), but would never go back to Cozumel.

We have been on 9 cruises and would highly recommend it. Great deal for the price and there is food 24 hours a day. Every day is a different port with different beaches and sights.

We went to an all inclusive resort outside Cancun last year and had a great time. Never left the resort the entire 5 days we were there, did not want to mess with the "in town" scene. Sat on the beach everyday and enjoyed the view, the great food and the adult beverages.

We are leaving on our 7th cruise this Thanksgiving. This time we are going to Hawaii. For an all inclusive vacation you can't beat a cruise. You can do as much or as little as you want and the food is great. For people with out kids, I would stay away from Carnival cruise line.

Two suggestions:

Anyplace in Europe--weather is nice in spring and tourists haven't arrived (I'm a college professor and have thus far visited Paris, Spain and Italy, each for one week during spring break, which for us is always around mid-March.)

This one's pricier: Danube (or other) European cruise. Nice and relaxed, small boats (120-150 people).

If you want to go to Cancun to enjoy the sun and the beaches, you can have the relaxed quiet vacation you are looking for, if you stay away from "the strip".

The nicest place we've found is Moon Palace.
http://www.docancun.com/Hotels/moon-palace-cancun.htm

It is far enough away from the strip and all the commotion that you don't have to deal with all the panhandlers, pickpockets, and obnoxious "vendors".

It is set on a private beach/property several miles from the rest of the hotels.

Good food, and good staff.

Jerry I got a great one for ya, take the cruise to Alaska!! Opposite direction from the kids and a cruise of a lifetime, they have hot tubs and heated pools and the excursions are amazing!

That was from the wife who has been twice and we're going in 2 yrs to mark it off my "bucket list".

Consider Puerto Rico.

How about a National Parks in Utah. Warm weather, mountains, hot tubs, which have water

As for me, I have been on two cruises, one too many.

One word, "Branson". We have never had a bad time there. If you like music, comedy, dancing or magic you cant have a bad time there.

I've been on one cruise, and I'd rather go camping any day, but that's just my opinion!

Sedona, Arizona is pretty awesome in the spring, and you could drive up and see the Grand Canyon one day. They have hot tubs in many of the hotels there.
