window thickness

Since I live where its colder been wondering lots about heat loss and windows.
Is it better to have a thicker glass window or duo pane ?
What about the over all thickness (wall thickness) ?
Tinted, Self tinting, Clear ?
Anything else I might of missed

One thing to remember is the volume of space you are heating is small, but if my memory (faulty) serves me, you intend to use your trailer for winter camping.
You will have to have some fresh air coming in or you could wake up dead.
Two panes are better than one more insulation is better than less, having said that it IS a small volume you are heating. My personal feeling is that the best reason for double pane and more insulation is to prevent ice from forming.

I would like to ask a question regarding oxygen depravation.

On our second night out on our fall gathering this weekend I had a panic attack. I woke at 11:03 and my mind was racing I could not sleep another minute in the trailer and had to escape. Unfortunatly I had entered thru the curb side door ( Her side ) . The teardrop is set up with simple slide locks inside. and a lockable slide lock outside on the drivers side( my side) only. While it was not locked it was slid closed outside. In order to get out I had to raise the inside sash and screen and slide the bolt. It took all the composure I could muster not to tear out the entire sash to get out. I got the window up and the bolt slid and as soon as the cool night air hit me I was better. I sat by the fire about 1/2 hour and returned to bed without a problem. The only reason I make this confession is to ask a question, will oxygen depravation bring on a panic attack? I have slept collectively "weeks" in this trailer and normally sleep better in it than at home, so why did this happen. It's a 5 x 8 by 5 tall sleeping area and it was the bride and I and 2 small terriers. I had failed to open a window a bit as is my usual procedure. This was primarily because we had not brought a heater and was attempting to contain the natural body heat in the trailer. So again the question repeated ,Will oxygen depravation bring on a panic attack?

Will oxygen depravation bring on a panic attack?

When the brain begins to be deplete it's O2 level the body will increase the bloodflow to the brain in order to combat the low oxygen level. Heart rate is increased as a result and your ability to make quick decisions is reduced due to lack of oxygen. To me I would think this feels like a panic attack possibly.

Another possiblilty is maybe sleep apnea? I've had a "attack" of Apnea that causes me to stop breathing and I wake up in a complete state of panic.

Bob the volume of your trailer exclusive of anything else in it including cabinets etc. etc. is 125 ft.³
I did inspections in refineries and other locations that include a confined space entry. In virtually every case every time I went into a new refinery to do an inspection you had to go through their emergency procedures and their confined space entry practices.
In every case those confined spaces were a whole lot larger than your 125 ft.³. I can't tell you how many times I wore an oxygen monitor and never had it alarm, but I never regretted having it. One of the more interesting statistics is that 60% of the confined space deaths were of would be rescuers.
I've spent a little while looking online to find out the calculations necessary to figure out the volume of oxygen and the safe level in your confined space. It hit me that no matter how you look at it you exceeded that, and got lucky.

i read in some post, from a person far smarter then i,,,,and no smarty pants it wasn't forest gump.....that in an airtight teardrop two poeple could use up the oxigen to a dangerous if not fatal level in as little as six hours. two things, first no teardrop is airtight,,,but many are close.
second,,,, im not sure my wife has ever slept 6 hours without getting up to go,,,,well,,, she opens the door.

so concidering all things i always open my vent an inch or so. and only on three nights have we had to use an electric blanket.

Back to the origional topic, Two pane window would only slow the transfer of heat if they are sealed units with an inert(dry) gas and thermal break between the panes. These would be far nore expense than the benefit gained in a small trailer. Storm windows over single pane windows slow down transfer slightly, but they have ways of letting condensation out. This also equalizes the temprature between the panes and makes them less effective.

Bill, good point. We use shrink film on the windows in our house that have not yet been replaced and that does quite a bit toward sealing them off. It also provides enough separation that you do not get ice forming on the glass or plastic. So cheap easy solution double stick tape and shrink film as a solution.

Wow thanks for the concern...Just to clarify I will have some vents inside...but it is always better to be on the cautious side of things
Are there any winter window manufacturers?
Some that are better then others?

What about the thickness of the window compared to the wall how thick do they come???

A thought occurred to me, magnetic inside windows http://www.magnetite.com/how.html you could easily adapt this idea to other materials.
