Just got back from Linville Falls/Grandfather Mountain

Postby wincrasher » Tue Oct 18, 2011 4:28 pm

Went up to Linville Falls, NC last weekend. Took in Grandfather Mountain and the Linville Caverns while there. Stayed at the Linville Falls Travel Lodge and Campground. We had the best time!

Took my nephews and their parents. They stayed in the tent! Sister didn't like that too much.

Friday was VERY windy at night. We had trouble with our campfire. Took in a hike at the Linville Falls and a short one at the via duct.

Saturday during the day was also windy - knocked alot of leaves down - I was the only one brave enough to climb out on the rocks at GM. Everyone else stayed at the bridge. Also went to Cone Manor off the parkway.

Saturday night was perfect. Not too cold, not much breeze. We sat around a roaring fire roasting marshmellows and drinking whiskey.

Sunday was a nice warm day, took in the caverns and then headed home.

Of course, lots of people came up to us in the campground wanting to know more about my "lil camper". They just make people happy for some reason.

As much as I enjoy my silver shadow, I'm considering getting something bigger for these "family trips". It's alot of work loading and unloading all the stuff, setting up the tent, etc. I'll keep my tear for my weekend trips by myself.

Our next trip will be south. Maybe the beach. Too cold from here on out in the mountains.

Here some pics for those that like them:

Nice pictures!

The bear looks sad...maybe because he knows winter is coming. ;)

Surprised at the comments on the bear picture.

This was taken at the animal habitat on Grandfather Mountain, about 10 feet away.

Help your sister/bil build their own trailer. Then you won't have to unpack so much.
