Harbor Freight Trailer Kit - "Coupler Base" Missin

Postby absolutsnwbrdr » Wed Oct 19, 2011 9:30 pm

I unpacked my HF trailer kit tonight and grabbed a few of the pieces that I wanted to paint before assembling it. I painted the tongue pieces and the leaf spring brackets, and then started to lay everything else out.

After all the pieces were in place, I realized that the "coupler base" was missing. :x

The assembly manual says to call 1-800-444-3353, but they are closed so I will have to call them again tomorrow.

Has anyone ever had to call them about missing parts? Were they helpful?

This is a long shot, but would anyone happen to have a coupler base laying around? For reference, it is the boxy piece on top of the end of the tongue that the coupler gets bolted to....

Thanks in advance!

Dang Zach that's a huge bummer! Not exactly the way you want to start a new build. Hopefully they will be helpful and get you what you need without a big hassle.

My experience with them was that they were responsive and shipped the part quickly. Hopefully you will have the same experience.
The way the could have avoided this is to simply weigh the package, parts left out cause them to come up under weight and with digital load cell's they could know with in a couple of ounces what is in the kit.

Looks like some one is trying to tell ya something.

It would a real good time to turn that top mount upsidedown and add that 2x2 square tube and extend that tongue.

Thanks guys... hopefully I get the same customer service as you did, SC.

Bob, I am doing the tongue modification first thing this time, instead of after the trailer is built. The piece that I need to flip is the missing piece.

If worse comes to worse, I'll just have a flat plate cut to size and drill a couple holes in it. Like you said Robbie, its just not a good way to start off the build.

NOTE TO ANYONE WHO HAS TO CALL HARBOR FREIGHT TO GET A REPLACEMENT FOR A MISSING PIECE...

DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER THAT THE ASSEMBLY MANUAL TELLS YOU TO CALL (1-800-444-3353)

I sat on the phone for a half hour trying to talk to someone who barely spoke English. Then after giving them my information 3 times, he put me on hold for another 10 minutes, then came back and told me his computer had technical difficulties and I would have to call back. Man, was I PISSED!!!!!!! I even got the supervisor on the phone... and guess what... NO ENGLISH EITHER!!

Call every other number on Harbor Freight's website until you get someone who speaks English. If they don't speak English, don't even bother trying. Just hang up and call another number.

I finally called 1-888-866-5797 and (after sitting on hold for another 5 minutes) finally got to talk to someone who spoke English!! He took down my info in less than 2 minutes, and said they'll be sending me the part right away.

MY BAD !

I saw the mount in the picture and not the coupler so I thought IT was missing.

A couple members made plates to cover the entire tongue. Made a great base for tongue box or to drill thru and mount a tongue jack.

SLOW! Thats awesome!! I may be in touch with you if the part that they send me turns out to be the wrong piece.

The English speaking gentleman that I FINALLY spoke to sounded certain that they had the part in stock and were going to ship it immediately.
