AT&T TTT ?

Postby GPW » Sat Oct 22, 2011 8:22 am

Spotted a trailer from afar the other day ... as I got close , noticed AT&T on the side .. as well on the truck towing it . Cute little thing ,moulded fiberglass outer shell , sort of oddly shaped , more tall than wide , and a big AC on the roof ... Guessing it’s a new linesman trailer ... but looks like it might be good for camping too ... Nice looking too !
Anybody else seen one ? Curious as to what the inside looks like ?

Probably trailer uses as a "environmental enclosure" for people splicing fiber optic cables...Originally they were nothing more than a cargo trailer with a work bench and couple of folding chairs and a window or two and an cooler on roof....

Perhaps a Fiber Optic Splicing Trailer byPelsue; they have the FiberLite XL and the POD.

A much lighter trailer, similar in profile and made for camping, is made by WeisCraft. They have two models: Little Joe and Ponderosa.
The footprint is 9'x5'.

Thanks JB , I think it was a POD (single axle) ... looked small from the street , but didn’t know it was a Standy ... :o They probably cost a fortune ...
Wonder if ATT has any old ones to get rid of ?

Yeah every time I see one of those little things I start thinking of what I'd have to do to modify one and then how long I'd spend in jail if I actually stole the thing!

I don't know where you'd look to find a used one for sale. Maybe ATT has a site for that kind of thing.

My whole family is ex ATT or now employed ATT. My husband just told me that they do auction those off at times. Hmmm, might have to check into that.

AT&T keeps their vehicles for a long, long time any more. Their last vehicle I drove was a 9 year old Ford Focus with 190,000+ miles, the one before that was a 12 year old Doge Neon with only 55,000 miles (got rear-ended in that one).

I havent' seen any of those little pull-behind trailers up here in the Midwest--it seems they're still using the larger van-type trucks for fiber-optic splicing here.

When the vehicles are retired, they're normally sold to an auction vendor who has to remove all AT&T identifying signage.

Check with your local auctions--they would know where to find the retired vehicles.

Out on west coast AT&T and the other companies pretty much use the FOST...
