Aluminum frame

Just wondering anyone has built an aluminum frame tear? I know it would cost three times more. You could save some weight. 60lbs or so. Seems like it might be too much cash for such a little weight savings?

Compass Rose is all aluminum frame and it is considerably more than 60# savings. When I was contemplating a teardrop I started looking at what fails and in order of importance it was wood rot and rust.
When I said all of the frame is aluminum I mean all. The body is 1 X 1.5 X .060 rectangular tube. The fully loaded weight of this 6X10 Grasshopper design was 1400# as a contrast a 5X10 Camp Inn is the same or more weight dry and CR has a great deal more storage and amenities including the water heater.

If your looking to save weight you could go with a 16 gauge steel 2x2s. That's what I did and it is plenty stiff with some corner gussets.
