Excuses for taking so long to build

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Postby nubwon » Thu Feb 23, 2006 12:46 pm

My build was always going to be done with just overtime money. After a good start, we had some unexpected medical bills that had to be paid. After getting back on track, a little lady by the name of Rita visited us.This gave me plenty of overtime money, but way too much work and not enough off time lol. After getting some of the major items taken care of from Rita, It looked like I'd be able to get back to the build. Well now i am 2 weeks into a 6 week sentance on crutches from knee surgery, so it will be a little while before i can get back to the teardrop build again. Now on a brighter note, while recooperating from the surgery, the wife took me to harbor freight. I bought a nice air shear, and router speed control. I have also bought my lights, ordered my aluminum skin, bought the corner trim, and just this morning ordered tires and wheels. This all should be in by the time i can go back to work, so I should be back to building in a month or so

Thanks Steve, but you didn't need to say I was a Classic. I've been lacking one thing to completing my tear and just the other day I found it. But wouldn't you know it, it's in England. That was light brown vinyl beading to finish off all the interior seams or joints. 50' for L22 and L6 for shipping. I think that's around $48.50 US.

If you saw my to-do list for the Lil Diner, you'd think I was just starting the build... :? :x

And here I am, getting ready to start an Ultralight...

Which reminds me, I need a picture of the swiss cheese...

Oh yea, I also gotta post the cad reviews, which I have on a CD that was burned on a Mac... :? :? :?

Mike...

P.S. don't ask!

I can't start buying or building for that matter until I find out if my student loan went through. I have no clue how long that is going to take eather. Oh yeah, I need to see what my pay checks look like from my new job. (pay fro my truck too, but that wont be long at all) Yeah, I got a couple of things I got to take care of.

I had a much delayed start due to a couple of other projects I wanted to complete. First I waited 2 months for the plumbers to hook up my new lines to the city pipes before starting the other projects. Then, I built my new storage shed so I'd have room for some of the materials and parts while building. Then, I made a drive way to the back with timbers and crushed shell where I'll be building and later storing the TTT or boat under my vinyl canopy.

So, that gave me plenty of time for planning, getting answers, etc. In late January, I finally got started. I am retired, and don't get at all bored with the building. But, I do take my time and try not to make too many mistakes. I also take a lot of time outs to update my plans as it actually gets built so they match.

I usually start between 9 and 10 AM most days unless I need to shop for something. Then, I usually clean up and am done by 5 PM. In a little over a week, I've built one side and started on the other. I have 6 angled spars, and 4 of those are compound angle's spars (2 or 3 pieces glued together) and these are time consuming to do, but I have made most of them as I go with the sides.

We're supposed to get rain tomorrow, so I won't have the other side ready until early next week. By the next weekend, I should have my trailer balanced and get the axle brakets welded on. By the following weekend, the floor and frame should be painted, everything on the frame, and I can move it all to my back yard work area to finish it. How long will that take? I don't dare to guess. But, I estimated 3 months total and maybe longer.

Gage, you're right about the memory. Since I started this, I spend so much time thinking, planning, figuring, etc. that I do believe mymemory has improved wome

One can't let mutually deciding on building a trailer stop one, or I wouldn't be building.

My wife is tolerant and just considers it one of my eccentricities that she puts up wil.

my excuse for not doing my teardrop

Postby Miriam C. » Mon Feb 27, 2006 8:49 pm

 The glue didn't set up on my work table. (gorilla glue type warning-don't put on both sides. Even a thin layer will foam, make a mess and not set up.)

 The trailer I was going to buy, my brother wants 5 times what he has in it and I have to go get it. He won't sell it to anyone else

The second trailer is out of stock at the factory. (Do you think we are causing this?)

HUMMMM---

I dug out the table saw and made some sawdust for practice. Yummy!
Got some adjustable stands to help with big pieces.
Swept the garage floor. I am getting stircrazy.

Miriam,

It's time to build...

What style did you choose?

What chassis are you going to build it on?

When are you going to start?

We shall sit here and wait for your answers... :campfire:

Mike...

P.S. Oh yes, one last question. Do you have a digital camera? :snappy:
