I have been camping regularly for nearly 30 years and had never heard of a teardrop trailer until about 1 week ago when researching the possibility of a small travel trailer for a cross-country trip. I stumbled across a website for teardrop trailers, and have been spending all my free time (as well as a lot of time when I should be doing other things) searching for more info on these neat little trailers. The wife is even on board, and despite all my other projects she gave me the the OK to build one this winter.
The trailer is going to be slightly on the larger side, as far as teardrops go, as it needs to sleep me, my wife, and 2 dogs (both about 50#). Right now we are planning for a trailer that is 10' long by 5' wide. The main sleeping cabin will be about 8' long, to include a space under the cabinets for the dogs.
While not truly classic designs, I am really drawn to trailers with a rounded front similar to the Camp-Inn Raindrop 560 and the Airstream Basecamp. I have been sketching up ideas all day. I can't wait to get started building. I am sure it will be quite an adventure.
