excuse

Postby oklahomajewel » Tue Feb 28, 2006 7:28 am

Well, I keep meaning to at least take pics of my "barn" actually it's not red, not barn shaped at all and no animals live there.

And in OKC today, we are supposed to get some good warm weather, like in the 70s!!! So I think I'll take off a couple hours early and work on my barn doors. (homemade doors) They need some 'adjusting' to get them open all the way. And there is some junk that needs to be moved out of the way.
You wanna picture of that junk??!!! hahaha

Cuz Saturday is TRAILER DAY with BG , meeting halfway in Ardmore for the exchange!!! That means (hopefully) my Saturday night date will be with someone at HD or Lowe's getting some supplies and Sunday should be day 1 !!! If nothing else, at least getting the floor ready.

And MJ -- don't even ask! I do have a digital and I will take pictures every step of the way. :snappy:

But if the picture taking delays the build... then you will be my excuse for it taking so long !!!!
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

I know how that goes. I have to remind myself to get the necessary pics taken for my plans, and the setup for the shot takes time. I have to use a tripod and the timer for those where I have to be in the shot doing something. And, sometimes have to take 2 or 3 until I get it right. Not all of those are pertinent enough to make it to publiv viewig, but must be done and take time.

But, now that I'm building, I find that the urgency has dimenished and I just want to work at a steady pace, not making mistakes. Every little bit of progress counts, not just getting it done. So, if it is taking you a long time to finish, so be it...just get 'er done! And done right!!!

I don't bother, I typically work when everybody is asleep. So I just snap pics when I remember. Since I'm working at night, I take a minumum of 2 pics one with flash another without. Since it's digital, no worries, just delete the bad one.

Being new here is at times and enjoyable experience...and then I look at what you guys do and how long it takesand that humbles me.

I'm just in the "research" stage of this and there really is no pressure but I still find myself anxious to start. The advice here is awesome and coupled with your encouraging comments really makes one feel welcome and a bit less "nervous"

I hope y'all are still "jawin" when I start building this summer, I'll need all the advice, encouragement and "yuks" I can get!!

Don't need no stinking weatherstripping. I built my tear tight. You've seen my tear, did you see
any weatherstripping? When I drop the hatch from full open position it just goes swoosh.
I then reach down and latch it.

Have a good day.

I wish I could be that good with the fitting. I'm still trying to figure out how to construct my tongue box and make the door/lid leak proof. But, with it's shape, narrowing from front to back as it goes up, I think I'll have to make the door "L" shaped. That is, most of the front and top will be one piece, hinged at the bottom in front, and open by swinging forward. I'm still tossing around ideas, but weather stripping is in all of them.

Don't get me wrong Dale. If I was to build a 'standy' there would be rubber all over it. I was just trying out an idea with the tear and so far I've had no water problem. I have got one gap along the lower edge of the hatch that I haven't figured out yet and when I built the hatch didn't even think about it.

Have a good day.

Gage--

Doesn't a place like Moss Motors in Goleta have the beading that will fit? I'll bet the shipping is cheaper.

I've finally got a handle on how I'll build my tongue box and make the door. I took measurements and sat down at the PC this morning and came up with what I think is workable. I'll use some thin foam weatherstripping and overlapping trim to stop water getting in. Even if it does, it will be no problem. I'll probably put in a couple of drain tubes just in case. All that will be in it will be my battery and shore power cord. And, maybe my leveling jacks.

The next weather proofing I have to do is to design my cargo doors on the side for the rear compartment. That will be a small door (about 12" x 12") as the compartment is intended for long, narrow items like folding chairs (canvas), dining canopy and poles (if I buy one), etc. I'll have to look at TD door designs, as it will probably be the same idea for sealing.
