Axles Allowing Raising and Lowering of Trailer

Talking to an ice-fisherman from Minnesota this morning at coffee. They converted a small travel trailer to position out on the ice and lower it over the fishing hole-thereby having all the comforts of a trailer while ice fishing. He says you can find axles on the internet to hydraulically or mechanically lower and raise trailers if the tires are outside the trailer body. I haven't checked it out (don't have a requirement) but thought it might be a good idea to pass along to people trying to build a garageable standie to see if it is feasible.

I have a neighbor (he owns the car wash in the same parking lot as my shop) that used his Ice Castle fish house as a camper in the summer for the last couple years. (those things cost around $20K depending on options)

He says it is basically shot. Those type of axles are meant to go to a lake and parked, not traveling around the country. The tires are wearing excessively on the inside. The only suspension is the air in the tires.

I wouldn't recommend this idea, but it's always good to think outside the box.

Pull up to your site, push a button and the trailer is setting on the ground (blocks). Walk right in!!

My brother had mentioned ice fishing trailers at one time, but since I don't ice3 fish and since I don't even like to walk on the ice around here, never gave it much thought, but now it has me thinking.
